Social Security provides you with a source of income when you retire or if you can’t work due to a disability. It can also support your legal dependents (spouse, children, or parents) with benefits in the event of your death.

Tk you for answering my Q. In Canada, we have a seperate disability pension from the Old Age Pension. To claim a disability pension, one has to "qualify" as in having an actual disability & cannot work. But everyone else gets the Old Age Pension from 65yrs forward. There is also a seperate Welfare Program for those young ones who can't get a job or single Moms who can't work etc.
Seems we have different programs here from the US.
 Quoting: simplify

Sorry I didn't get to your question - I was out for a bit. I glad someone did for you.

Here we 'have to' pay into 'Social Security'. Govt takes it from our paychecks. Then we get it back on a monthly basis at retirement.

Disability has to be proven here too but, many people can find crooked docs. to cover.

 Quoting: Lilopin

you seem to have a slightly different program to us. Everyone here gets Old Age Pension regardless of whether they paid into it or not. This is entirely seperate from our welfare program. Tks for answering....we are a vulnerable group. Tough as nails but still vulnerable.
 Quoting: simplify

Oh yeah, our 'welfare' is totally separate thing from Social Security.

I am getting Social Security from my late husband's account. It is not much, still puts me at a level to get some assistance. FTR, he died at 67, which was his full retirement age, so he only got his full social security retirement for a few months before the cancer killed him.

Don't need SS so if they take it away, well then the next generation can have it.

If I'm not mistaken, laws would have to be changed first. Remember when they raised the retirement age, remember when they reduced the COLA for SS? Took years and months of back and forth to do it.

But, since everyone seems to like living in a communist country, who the hell knows what they'll do.
 Quoting: Billxam, ABATE, AWHA

Worked my butt off to save for retirement. Collected items that I could sell when I retire and invested heavily. I lived below my means always so I could do so. It would be nice to collect all the SS I paid in but I'm not selling my soul for some piddly check.

I feel sorry for anyone that is forced to do so because I know a lot of people that will be devastated by it if this Monster in office decides to take away their SS. But I think his days are numbered as president, he's making everyone angry.

Neither of them went to the hospital or had any need for anything other than rest and some fever reducers in the first 2-3 days.

OP: If that were to happen then conservative patriots would/should step up and help one another out.

I for one would offer another conservative retiree free room and board with me in my house in Florida. I have 2 completely unused bedrooms. My fiance and I use only 2 of the 4 bedrooms.

Social Security provides you with a source of income when you retire or if you can’t work due to a disability. It can also support your legal dependents (spouse, children, or parents) with benefits in the event of your death.

 Quoting: simplify

Social Security and our Welfare program are separate too

Welfare comes from the State and is different in each

Disability is a part of social security - a federal program but hard to qualify for unless you lost a limb or something (had a friend apply- denied)

Every single worker has money taken from paychecks for 40-50 years before they qualify for social security - used to be full benefits based on your income and “deposits” was at age 65
Now full benefits depends on year you were born
It’s age 67 for those 1955-58
Age 68 and up for after that

You “can” take a benefit at age 62 but it is about half and remains half forever - so that’s for the sick - desperate - or less healthy playing the odds

If you wait until age 70 you get the maximum benefit and that remains forever

You cannot will or give to decedents

It ends when you die

Killing off the nursing home residents like 3 Governors executive orders that we know of saves the federal government a lot of money

Medicare is old age health care and is NOT FREE ( as many assume)
It is STATE BY STATE and fees are anywhere form $700 a year to $2000 a year for the EXACT SAME CARE as defined by the FEDS

Medicare does NOT cover drugs - eyeglasses- dental care - hearing aids
(A special add on policy for drugs can be purchased )

Medicare does NOT COVER NURSING HOME CARE after 120 days

Families are usually SHOCKED to find out what it does NOT COVER

Hospitalization has a fee for each occurrence

Doctors don’t like Medicare because of the low fees

MEDICAID is for the POOR HEALTHCARE and is STATE by STATE

Unemployed can get MEDICAID after a certain period

Some people don’t want to go back to work because their children will lose health coverage

Employers are usually required to OFFER PLANS that are usually more expensive and less coverage

No healthcare is free in the USA

But we have choices of jobs and plans

We don’t have to WAIT like they do in CA

My friend once waited 3 hours to see a nurse to get a prescription to see a doctor when living in Montreal - and then waited two weeks to see that doctor - when he thought he had pneumonia (!)

My belief is if they threaten the social security payments many seniors depend upon - there will be tens of millions of people that feel like they have nothing to lose

That is a dangerous situation for all

What is your vitamin regimen? We use Zinc, vit D and Vit C.
 Quoting: Tromaton

You've listed some of the really important ones.

Liposomal Vitamin C - 1500mg per day with food

Vitamin D3 with Vitamin K2 - 10000iu per day with food

Chelated Zinc - 25mg per day with food

Chelated Copper - 2mg per day at least 4 hours apart from the Zinc

Selenium - 200mcg per day with food - the easiest and best way to get 200mcg selenium is to eat 3 Brazil nuts per day.

Quercetin - 500mg per day with food

Lipothiamine - 50mg per day with food

Vitamin E with Tocopherols & Tocotrienols - 400iu per day with food (find one with the Tocotrienols, not just the Tocopherols)

That's the basic list for immune health and heart health.

If you feel like you're coming down with something, double up on all the vitamins listed above until you feel better. You can safely increase the zinc to 100mg per day x 7 days during an infection.

A good multivitamin and healthy eating will augment that regimen perfectly.

With everything going on and the communists forcing the jab in every area they can - would it even surprise you if they did that? - not me.

Seriously? What would you do if SS is all you have to live on?

Thats all I have to live on and I honestly don't know.

Don't take it under any circumstances. This is extortion and betrayal of you,

and you will have to comply again and again.

I am retired and SS and my tiny pension is all my income.

here's my secret: cut spending to the bone.
Food is the most important, buy in bulk, grow some, stretch it out.
Help someone who has a garden for some beans or tomatoes.

NOTHING is worth the killshot.

I have no intention of ever taking it and live a close to minimalist life.

My home is paid off but theres the yearly dirt rent it sits on (prop tax)

A friend always gives me fresh laid eggs.

My home is small but, I still close off 1/2 of it in the winter and wear warmer cloths.

In my town we have to pay for 2k gal of water a month whether its used or not.

I typically only eat 2 meals a day.

etc. etc.

The one thing that I will always have is my faith, that will never be taken from me.

Tho I don't 'know' what I would do - I do know I will be taken care of.

Pretty much identical here....I hear ya!! Keeping the faith always!
Luv u bunches, sweetie! grouphug

hell yeah there's one of my vaccinated seniors you feel any side effects I bet you don't other than being able to enjoy going outside without worrying.

Clueless as usual, Gintel.

Both of my parents, in their late 70's, are mRNA-free, and both had COVID in August 2020. Both recovered fine, probably in part because I keep them on a solid vitamin/mineral supplement program.

Don't let it worry you, OP. We'll take this fight one day at a time, but we won't leave any brothers or sisters behind.

A good multivitamin and healthy eating will augment that regimen perfectly.

there is always the cash only ebonomy.
I know a lot od SS guys who cut lawns for extra cash.
Many women bake or make crafts and sell their goods for cash.
Handymen, trade works, small jobs, baby sitting, dog sitting, house sitting, Gold mining in some states, lots of options.

You are not being realistic. Those little jobs do not pay enough to make the rent and utilities. They are little odd jobs to keep from going crazy for something to do. If anything needs to be done of urgency and big money one is just sol.

And....there comes a time...a certain time of age where it becomes physically impossible to continue on with those little odd jobs.

Don't worry honey ...you will get to be a senior citizen if you can live long enough and then you will understand.

Getting old isn't for sissy's. It hurts and its painful. The dam pain robs you of energy and joy.

It will just be a time to die for a lot of old folks. Not everybody has family or family willing to take care of their elders. It is a cultural thing and here in the US...the culture is dump and run.

This. But like the one guy said, you can still pull a trigger.
I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you.
