The APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) is in fact a small jet engine.
It powers an electric generator and can power the air-conditioning system as well.

Not to state the obvious but if one wanted to spray aerosolized compounds out of a passenger plane without passengers seeing any trails, mixing those compounds into the auxillary engines fuel be the ideal way to do it. Since different planes have their vents in different locations, this could easily explain the visibile differences noticed in trails from the ground. Regardless of whether we're talking about the 'chemtrail' conspiracy or the publicly acknowleged cloud seeding programs, it would still be the ideal way to go about it with large passenger jets.

The 777 uses the Honeywell 331-500 APU. Rather than an oil cooling fan like on older APU's the -500 uses an eductor for oil cooling. The eductor is mounted on the exhaust of the APU.

The eductor seal simply blew and the APU oil is getting pumped into the exhaust. Been happening since 1996.

Think of an airliner as a giant flying motorhome. When you park the motorhome you don't leave the engine running to power the interior lights AC and everything right?

Airliners have at least one jet fuel powered APU (fancy word for generator) that they often run while pulled up to the gates. If something goes wrong with that APU it generally looks about like this.

Even more interesting is most airliners actually have pop out secondary APU's they can use if they lose their engines or etc in flight that freewheels and provides enough power to keep the control actuators and other key systems running.

I can understand why people would be confused by seeing this but I absolutely do not understand the jumping to ridiculous conclusions.

There is actually a turbine generator there but in airplane world they're called auxiliary power units or APU's

They burn jet fuel just like the main engines and provide the 400 hertz AC commercial aircraft systems run on.

And the APU on that aircraft is located in the tail right where you see the smoke
