Smoking cannabis nearly doubles the risk of young adults suffering a heart attack, a study has suggested.

Canadian researchers looked at the history of heart attacks in more than 33,000 adults aged 18 to 44.

Nearly one in five of these young adults reported using cannabis - and this group were twice as likely to have suffered a heart attack.

Overall 1.3 per cent of cannabis users had experienced a heart attack, compared to 0.8 per cent of non-users.

Heart attacks were most common in those who took cannabis at least once a week, and the risk was the same regardless of if it was consumed through smoking, e-cigarettes or edibles.

From my experience with cannabis, you put off basic things like eating properly, personal hygiene, bathing/ showering.. it’s great at festivals but doesn’t translate into normal life…!!!

This is the most ridiculous thing you could say. I am 48, have a job as head auto painter, smoke daily multiple times, grow it, eat it, make weed-ohol (weed slow and low cooked in 200 proof, like a tincture) with it. I seem to be able to make it to the shower. I'm not overweight, eat well. Have a wife and kids and dogs and cats. But...

My first thought was "good thing I'm 50"

I believe that smoking anything is not good for you. Why dont they just eat the weed, is the high not good enough?

Smoking anything is dangerous.

It's smoke. In your lungs. Common sense...

But -- to each their own!! That's why I use edibles instead!!

I can see where SMOKING would. Smoking anything is not good for the heart/lungs.

If someone is prone to heart disease, and wish to use cannabis, then another delivery system would be best to chose.

Smoking weed can be therapeutic for the lungs.

The main problem is diet and sedentary lifestyle.
