I saw Prince at Coachella in 2007. He did one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen or closest to a miracle. He said “How many ya’ll know about the quake? Then he said it again. Then he had his crew jump up and down on stage. Then he got the crowd jumping up and down. And no joke sure as shit an earthquake happened. He made an earthquake happen. That kind of knowledge or whatever power it kind of scared me. He was not a natural man. |

I did however liked hearing him speak. He definitely wasn't just some dump air head pop musician. |

He was never known as the Prince of all people. He was a really laid back dude, I interviewed him once. It was a very tough interview to get as he told me he hated doing interviews but said he would do one if the radio station agreed to air it once and to not release it to anyone else. He made me promise at the end that I personally would destroy the cassette it was on when done and I did. He was very very protective of his image and would have been horrified that you identified him as someone who thought he was a Prince of all people. His biggest problem was people who stole his music, and record companies that tried to screw him out of his song catalog. This was right before he had to stop using Prince, it was so he could release his own music |

I’ve looked and looked for video of it and cannot find it. Huell Howser from California Gold was there and did a full journalistic effort of Coachella that week and only showed the Prince headliner for like a minute and completely skipped it. I only know one person in the world I can say hey do you remember when Prince made that earthquake and it is an ex from Before I was married. I’m telling ya though he did it. Our eyes bugged out and we were like do you feel that? Prince made an earthquake. And no drugs were involved. Well besides a little weed in the air maybe. |

We talked about a lot of stuff during the interview and of course very little made it on air as everything gets edited for time. |

I know you honored the man's wishes but man oh man do I wish that you wouldn't have cause I would've loved to hear it. But that's super badass you got to interview him. Like I said I liked a few of his songs, and he was no doubt a musical genius, one of which deserves a lot of respect. But most of his songs weren't my thing. I'm guessing the station you worked for wouldn't happen to have that interview archived, right? Either way, congrats on landing that HUGE interview. Do you remember any notable things discussed in that interview? Or any notable quotes from him during it? That is if you care to divulge anymore. Thanks for the reply! Super cool to know that there are some people that frequent this forum who have been apart of historical events. |

This is an AWESOME thread!!! I see it has "1" star lol... like read-it voting and face-butt likes, I've learned to look for both high and low ballers of that game for the gems. Today I was just looking for what Prince knew - glad I did. Off to look for a site that has his lyrics written out ... um, accurately, and preferably out of his own songbook. I don't always - or maybe ever - hear the words in songs right. In the meantime - anyone else have more biographical info on the man and his upbringing/connections/etc? I saw an interview once of a friend or colleague that pointed out that "elevator" lyric in "Let's go crazy" (? that might not actually be the real title of that song, sorry) and talked about how elevators were Prince's worst fear. I believe this was after he died in one, and why it was being discussed. OP - got any more leads on loaded lyrics? I'm hooked now. Great thread - thanks! |
