Report from the field:
Talked to my older friend last night at work. Her son was a marine sent to guard the Kabul airport and extract people and I guess he was on duty the day before that marine sgt Nicole Gee person got blown up at gate A or 1(I forget which.) He said she got blown up because they used the women soldiers a lot more than the men because they were needed for patting down other women and you only have so many female soldiers to do that. So she was overworked and a prime target. Her son only survived because he’d just come off like a 24 hour shift doing the same thing she was doing. She said her son & Nicole’s jobs were to try and process all of these little kids and babies into a system with their names (if they knew them) using a translator, then to get them all onto a plane.

Get this, most of the kids were completely abandoned, no parents around because the parents had already escaped and flown to places like Kuwait and just left their traumatized and hysterical kids behind…

She told me her son was really upset because apparently there’s some type of mote-like structure with a wall near where the airport is and the mote is filled with all kinds of floating garbage and the afghanis were hurling their babies over the wall and into the mote to drown. She said the soldier’s jobs were to clean up the garbage and fish the dead baby bodies out of the mote. She showed me pictures son took, it was awful. I started bawling at work and couldn’t look anymore. I I asked her why they would do that to their own babies instead of just handing them over and she said they were acting like animals and it was a survival of the fittest situation where people were literally fighting for their life to get on the planes and drowning/killing and/or abandoning their kids in an attempt to leave first! It sounded animalistic and evil.
She also said the adult Afghanis coming out of there aren’t screened properly because they refused to stay in the airport for processing and would come and go freely, disobeying the soldiers. Said a lot of them are “sleepers” (she’s an older lady and that was her terminology) and that our city where we’re from is getting 500 of them in a few weeks. I imagine a lot of towns across US will be getting them. She said her son was really angry about everything to do with being forced to leave especially after his friends got blown up and that many of them felt compelled to come back and hunt the bombers, but instead they all got shipped to Kuwait for debrief and quarantine, then they all come back here for another quarantine. So in total they will be in quarantine for an entire month.
