Nothing is at it appears.

WHY SPECULATE about this ? It could very easily be that Pak is on the threshold of war with India, and we are there ahead of schedule to assist in the action. Since we've been a strong ally of Pakistan since the 70s, and their conventional military was mainly supplied to them all these decades by the United States.

Taliban have no operators. Pilots imported.
 Quoting: Agent 99

I wonder if Imran the cricketeer is going to round them up?

Why are the US leaving all that equipment in Taliban/Daesh hands?

Can't they just send a flurry of fighter jets from one of the air bases across the Gulf (UAE/Saudi) and turn it all to dust before it gets too late?

wtf

Isn't it a violation of the Geneva Convention to use military equipment designed to look like your enemy??

I guess the Taliban and the US Army are buddies now!!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72530568

It's not designed to look like their enemy, it was a gift from their frenemy.

Hi
For me this is scary. Countries they could attack may think they are being attacked by the US and not Afghanistan. If at all possible I bet they would not think twice about flying these aircrafts in America and we could not tell the difference and turn out own weapons against us.

I thought the military trained soldiers over there to defend themselves. Would this include training piolets too? If so, we can be framed for attacks we do not do.

Flying back the parts(or cash, or gold) for the left behind equipment,

to trade for "hostages" left behind.

[IFF] nables military and civilian air traffic control interrogation systems to identify aircraft, vehicles or forces as friendly and to determine their bearing and range from the interrogator. IFF is used by both military and civilian aircraft. IFF was first developed during World War II, with the arrival of radar, and several friendly fire incidents.

Is it possible these are the deactivated, unusable, helicopters we left in Afghanistan?

Nah. Couldn't be.
 Quoting: Swamprat

The only military equipment that was disabled was what was the Kabul airport. They already had plenty of other aircraft gifted to them knowing full well the Afghan army was about to collapse.

Did none of these government einsteins ever read "Dune?"

When the Harkonens handed the planet Dune over to House Atreides, they left all kinds of boobie-traps and killing devices.

If we couldn't scuttle or destroy all the stuff, why couldn't we put little needles, coated with ricin. They put the gear on, and a couple days later they have the flu and then die. Call it COVID.

To snatch victory from the jaws of this defeat, all they had to do was read "Dune" and watch "Breaking Bad."

I was thinking that since Pakistan is a so-called ally of the US that they were probably Pakistani Chinooks but I looked it up and Pakistan is not listed as an operator of this aircraft, the plot thickens. Wiki didn’t waste any time putting the Taliban on the list of operators though
