Josh santiny a grand isle firefighter says everything is okay and everyone survived.

Another person says the coast guard flew over grand isle as there is no road access currently and that the crew on the ground gave a thumbs up and were trying to clear the roads.

And with that I am satisfied that everyone survived the storm and there are not 40 people needing rescue.

Facts are facts. Even here at the lunatic fringe. Sheesh.

Hard to get any real information down there

Calls keep failing

As far as I can tell Flight line First FBO is the only one open

Not sure what’s going on

Calls just drop

I thought I read that both Baton Rouge and New Orleans airports were closed. I think there is one near Lafayette?

Maybe Baton Rouge has opened up this afternoon?

I am getting my info about grand isle from f roberts a news reporter at Baton Rouge advocate.

Also you can go on Facebook grand isle and look at the comments from the mayor and the fire department.

I like a good conspiracy as well as anyone but when you are talking about lives I like facts.

Title kinda says it all.
I am headed to Grand Isle… there are over 40 ppl missing down there.
Trying to get redirected to Baton Rouge.

I have a feeling things are a bit worse south of New Orleans than the media is reporting.

Remember Katrina and Andrew… We “missed a bullet” was the initial report.

I am seeing reports that a family member has posted on facebook that they are all fine and survived. I don't know them personally and I'm not on facebook so no way for me to confirm what is being said on facebook.

One of the articles that I found said that someone saw them from a helicopter but weren't able to rescue them right away. Another article said that they rescued a separate group that were in a hotel on Grand Isle. Why didn't they get the first responders at the multiplex too?

Some funny things going on with the story. I especially thought it was odd that the police chief told them on the phone call to "make it stop." Why would a man who lives in Louisiana and has likely gone through multiple storms tell someone to "make it stop" when discussing a hurricane? Just doesn't make sense unless he was completely panicked? Or does he know something else? Either way, not good.

Stay safe in your work, OP.

I would suggest going on a low dose antibiotic right away. The risk of things like cholera and dysentry look serious if all I am reading and hearing about the long term lack of electricity and basic hygiene are true.

Chief: Ida hit Louisiana town hit harder than Katrina did

Grand Isle Police Chief Scooter Resweber and other officers ventured out early Monday to check on the nearly 100 residents who had stayed behind. He said many residents regretted that decision, although no one was seriously hurt.

First time I've seen that almost 100 residents stayed behind on Grand Isle. Sounds like the first responders are okay.

Don't rely on air travel. Find a vehicle and go. You should have your 3-day bag with you, and a case with certain comms/power equipment. If it wasn't issued to you, then you had a voucher to go pick it up on your own.

Including the means to defend yourself. Don't give me any crap that, "my agency/organization doesn't allow us to be armed." Your safety and self defense is YOUR responsibility. Even in the groups/agencies I worked for. No one has the right to deny you that. Also, what they don't know can't hurt them. True story. Logic being, if you're dead from attack, you cannot complete your mission.

I even snagged a ride from a utility team going to P.R. way back when. Use your imagination-think outside the box. You'll be more successful that way, and people will greatly benefit.
