It sounds like they close in the wells before vacating the rigs for the incoming hurricane.

So at least it should not be gushing oil.

Those rigs are massive, but so are the wind and water forces on such a large structure. And lots of repetitive shock stresses.


Apologies if it was just a rumor.
The main hurricane thread someone from the local area reported that the local radio said the rig had broken free.

I suppose it will get comfirmed one way or the other as soon as flights can resume over that area.

According to Shell, the United States Coast Guard reported visual confirmation that the Mars, Olympus, and Ursa platforms remain on location. Shell has scheduled its own flyover for tomorrow afternoon to assess these and other assets, that were in the path of the storm.
