Is there looting yet? This really surprised me I expected to see a free for all and shot outs at the nike stores and hair weave places.

Drinking Water is the next big issue and should be hitting tomorrow. Then fuel the fools riding around today wasting gas looking at fallen trees wont have enough to make it out. I dont see them letting people stay in new orleans. This story will blow wide open in the next 24 hrs. Its almost non existent today. New Orleans is currently uninhabitable.

Well at our Rouses Grocery in Hammond we got hammered today. At least one guy just loaded a buggy and walked out. Skeleton crew working today, due to massive amounts of trees down blocking roads and also flooding . Not to mention those that have trees and stuff in their house or on their vehicles. I went past a gas station earlier that must have got some in, the line was 1/2 mile long. Walmart Supercenter directly across from our store , they were closed but opened the parking lot later for FEMA peeps to hand out MREs and bottled water.

Day 2 Post Ida from St Tammany Parish

Internet is out again. Husband got up at 3am to try and get gas. People were sleeping at gas stations in their cars waiting for gas. He drive to Poplarville, MS and filled up cans. Got back and ran by Home Depot just in time to catch some gas cans they unloaded and drive all the way back to fill those

Traffic is grid-locked anywhere near a gas station. Lines were backed up onto exit ramps essentially stopping traffic on interstate. Reports from FB if people waiting in these lines even though there was no gas. Lines so long they don’t know and just wait.

Small towns outside the area (over in MS) started getting wiped out bc people started doing what my husband did. One lady reported on FB that there law enforcement blocking ramps on Interstate preventing anyone from LA or directing them to drive further. Not sure how accurate.

Every other post in my feed is from people in some of my groups asking where they can find gas, water, ice or bread.

There’s still no power for us. The local hospital was fully restored today so progress is being made. Saw reports of a few grocery stores being open and a few food places some were cash only.

Yesterday a 70 something year older man was attacked by a gator in the flood water. His wife got him loose and pulled him away. She got in a boat and paddled for help but when they retuned the man was gone.

My son and his crew watched stores get looted yesterday from the work yard in NOLA east. They are pulling 16 hr shifts to get power back up.

My family packed up a window unit and a few things for us and husband met my niece at her college to get it about hour and half away in Hattiesburg. He couldn’t top off there bc the lines were too long. He did hit a McD’s drive thru and they had a couple options with no special request. Was fine with us. That chicken sandwich never tasted so good!!! We are sleeping like rich folks tonight with this window unit!

I’m copying and pasting this foist from this morning on Slidell Police Dept Page. It’ll give you an idea of things here. People are hot, tired and on edge.

‼️Resources in Slidell are EXTREMELY LIMITED (fuel, food, etc.) There are HUNDREDS of people waiting hours and hours for supplies. This is not a good place to travel to right now. You may want to travel further east. Traffic is extremely backed up, and there is no relief in sight. We are not trying to be pessimistic, but this is the reality right now.

Tomorrow’s a new day

If the public officals in costal hurricane prone zones would simply loop this footage into their early evacuation storm warnings -plus allocate some budget to buy local tv and online infomercial spots (keeping the ad money in the local area) to show this same storm aftermath drone footage over, and over, and over again... I think that it would be far more effective than lame past measures for promoting early evacuation public consciousness and adoption.

They need to evac New Orleans NOW! It is no longer habitable. It will take 6 weeks just to start to get power back no way people can continue to live with out water, sewer and electric.

Looting will be full bore tomorrow because reality will set in. Hell you have fools on here saying/hoping for power tomorrow. SO naive simply google transmission lines and see the towers. Those towers are at least 500 ft tall over the Mississippi and they all are down. That aint no overnight fix. They just dont have spares either those have to be custom built. I worked Katrina and power didnt even start to be restored until week 4 and we didnt have this much main transmission line damage.

The fact law enforcement hasnt blocked lanes/roads headed back into new orleans is insane. They have enough thugs there as it is now every thug with half a brain is headed that way for free shit.

I think we have found a politician that is a bigger fuck up then Biden and that is the mayor of New Orleans.

Posted a couple of days ago that we were in Ida's direct path. By some miracle, the storm turned about 15 miles from our house. We still got part of the eyewall but not the northeast quadrant.

I had fixed up a space under the staircase for us to run to in the event of a tornado. During the storm, I went to that spot to take a nap - had not had much sleep for the few days before. When I put my head on the pillow, I could feel the slab and the ground vibrating from the intense winds. I'm 63 years old and have been through many hurricanes but Ida was definitely the worst.

As far as Grand Isle, it's decimated. In some video I saw on tv (generator), the sides of the camps which face the Gulf were sheared off. Every camp/house has damage. My Dad used to own a motel on Grand Isle and it was hit hard.

That said, I'm 99.9% sure that the natural gas feed to the Island was shut off before the storm. I lived there years ago and it was always done as part of storm preps by the local gov't. Water was shut off as well. The officials who stayed on the Island had their own tank supplies of water and propane to see them through storms.

Our area suffered damage but nothing compared to Grand Isle and central and south Lafourche.

My son spoke to an official today and it will probably be 30 days before we have electricity. School is off - both in buildings and virtual learning- until further notice in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes.

Please send prayers because so many families will come home to vacant lots and houses that look like pixie sticks.

John Bel Edwards is up at the top as well. Word is he is the one who wouldn't implement contraflow to allow more people to evacuate. He hasn't cried on TV yet like Kathleen Blanco did, but so far his response is just as bad as hers was after Katrina. Honore who saved the day after Katrina when Blanco was incapable of any action is now only worried about making people get the clotshot. We are in a mess in this country.

They are so incompetent, it has to be intentional.

At New Orleans senior center, dwindling resources amid power outage make circumstances dire

“Lights don’t bother me,” said Mack, an Army veteran who lived through hurricanes Betsy and Katrina. But the insulin, which he takes twice a day, requires refrigeration. Once his food spoils, he’s not sure if he’ll be able to eat what’s available. With the hernia, he can’t eat anything fried.

Mack is a resident at St. Martin Manor, an independent living facility for low-income seniors run by the Archdiocese of New Orleans. All residents are over 62 and on a fixed income, many of them disabled or juggling multiple medical conditions. Many decided to stay put before Ida, because evacuating would require a car or money for transportation and a hotel. Because Ida came at the end of the month, they’re already low on funds.

<snip>

“They’re assessing things right now,” said Leflore, laughing to herself. "That's what everybody says, the governor, the utility company, the phone company. We could be here dying, but they’re assessing it. So they can come back and see us assessed dead."

Why isn't the Catholic church doing anything for these people? It says the facility is run by the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Good Lord, we know the Catholic church has money...

The barrier island of Grand Isle, which bore Ida’s full fury, is “uninhabitable,” with every building damaged, Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng told a news conference. There are also numerous breaks in the levee system and a strong odor of natural gas, she said.

The number of deaths from the hurricane climbed to at least four in Louisiana and Mississippi, including two people killed Monday night when seven vehicles plunged into a 20-foot-deep (6-meter-deep) hole near Lucedale, Mississippi, where a highway had collapsed after torrential rains.

Among the crash victims was Kent Brown, a “well-liked,” 49-year-old father of two, his brother Keith Brown said in a telephone interview on Tuesday. Keith Brown said his brother was in construction but had been out of work for a while. He didn’t know where his brother was headed when the crash happened.

Edwards said he expects the death toll to rise.

For sure, the death toll will rise since Edwards and others aren't doing anything to stop it from rising.

Port Fourchon, refineries out for weeks, raising short- and long-term questions

There are more questions than answers at this point, but one thing is certain:

“It will create instability in the price of oil and increases in the cost of gasoline at the pump,” says David Dismukes, executive director of the LSU Center for Energy Studies. “The Gulf of Mexico is a significant crude oil production basin and Port Fourchon is a very significant port.”

How significant?

Some 90% of the Gulf of Mexico’s deep water oil and gas passes through Port Fourchon. That represents somewhere between 16-20% of the nation’s entire fuel supply.

Not only was Port Fourchon badly damaged, but refineries throughout the area were crippled, according to The New York Times.

Colonial Pipeline Restarts as Ida Damage Assessments Face Hurdles

Phillips 66 has not been able to begin damage assessments at its 255,600-barrel-per-day refinery on the Mississippi River in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, a spokesman said. The plant, which was put up for sale last week, was swamped from a failed levee in Alliance.

"That is the most water I have ever seen in my 31 years come through to Alliance," Plaquemines Parish Sheriff Gerald Turlich said on Monday.

Floods have also been reported at other facilities in Louisiana. Nine refineries have reduced production or shut operations, including Exxon's 520,000-bpd Baton Rouge, taking offline 2.3 million bpd of capacity or 13% of the country's total, the U.S. Department of Energy estimated.

Offshore, 95% of the Gulf's oil production and 94% of its gas output remained shut on Monday, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement said. A total of 288 production platforms and 11 rigs remained evacuated.

Numerous ports from New Orleans to Pascagoula, Mississippi, were closed on Tuesday, including Louisiana Offshore Oil Port (LOOP), the largest U.S. privately owned crude export and import terminal. The terminal on Tuesday said it was working with oil shippers to minimize the effects of the storm's disruption.

"With widespread refinery outages and debris on waterways, we expect no imports into the impacted ports in the coming days," analysis firm ClipperData said in a note to clients.

Gasoline shortage is bad and could get worse before it gets better

“Gas stations that usually take three days to go through a single delivery are now running through it in four or five hours,” says Josh Millazzo, retail fuel manager of Denham Springs-based Lard Oil Company, which distributes gasoline to more than 150 retail stations in southeast Louisiana, including Baton Rouge. “It’s tough to manage.”

On the supply side, the issues are the result of infrastructure problems created by Hurricane Ida:

• Refineries are down throughout the region;
• Big rig drivers, already in short supply before the storm, have been impacted by the hurricane like everyone else and in some cases have been difficult to contact or unable to come to work;
• Delays at the fuel terminal racks, where tankers fill up, are having a ripple effect.

Good morning Daniel.

Great work with your continued posting of updates; great job ma'am! hugs

I don't know why, but when I awoke about an hour ago, my first thought was about the cat left by a poster, whose username I don't remember. She wrote that she had left her cat on a boat somewhere on the coast at ground zero and had travelled to Hawaii.

I thought of the kitteh howling on the boat wondering where momma was. It if survived it will now starve and have no water if the boat didn't sink. Perhaps insignificant in comparison to other tragedies, but all life is precious.
Until your military service has required you neutralize enemy combatants and invaders in the defense of your country,
don't presume to tell us that have defended you that you don't support every shot we fired to eliminate that enemy.

Oh wow. Poor kitten. I do remember the poster who was in Hawaii, but I must have missed the part about her leaving a cat on the boat. I believe her daughter was in Baton Rouge and was planning a trip to New Orleans to evacuate two elderly ladies. I hope they and the cat are all safe.

I'm waiting for daybreak this morning. Trying to decide whether to make a trip to try and find fuel for some friends of mine. I need to do something, just trying to decide the best path forward.

Good morning all.

Parts of New Orleans East has power restored overnight

According to a news release, Entergy crews were able to turn power on for some customers in Eastern New Orleans with generation supplied by the New Orleans Power Station. Officials said this is the first step in bringing power back to the metro region, after Hurricane Ida left devastating destruction in its path.

While initial service can be provided to some customers, the full restoration will still take time given the significant damage across the region, Entergy officials said in a news release Wednesday morning. Crews will have to methodically bring back additional transmission lines over time to provide other pathways for power to enter the region, helping to maintain stability of the system throughout the complete restoration process.
