What is Covid like in your area?
I live in Eugene, OR and I’m seeing in the news our hospitals are at capacity like this - [link to kval.com (secure)]

My neighbor works on one of the Covid floors in this hospital. She used to think this was BS too, because when we last locked down, she said they only had 3 Covid patients. Now they have 36 on ventilators and quite a few more going to need them soon. She says she’s been seeing more people in their mid 20’s- early 40’s coming in and says it’s mostly unvaccinated people. I’m not shilling for the vax, I haven’t taken it myself. But I’m curious what is it like in the rest of the country? What is the vaxxed vs unvaxxed ratio like in your hospitals? Are they at capacity too?

Or more accurately: the imaginary enemy.

No mask requirements. Seems like the only people affected are those you would expect: elderly, immunosuppressed. Peace.

Hospitals getting overwhelmed. The outer islands have very small hospitals and have to send some patients to Oahu. Kauai, for example, has only 7 ICU beds. But Oahu is seeing the largest spike in cases and their hospitals are filling up too.

It does seem like more young people are getting it worse than last year. But this raises three possible reasons.

1. Those people did not get it in 2020 are getting it for the first time in 2021.

2. The newer mutations are more vicious against the younger, healthier people.

3. We have high vaccination rate, which could be causing the more aggressive mutations and spreading. It's very odd to have this many cases in August, and I suspect the vaccine is the reason.

Not too much here. Nobody seems really concerned. I can’t say what the hospitals are doing.

I was at the urgent care to get my leg checked out for some bad bruising. Me and one other person there. Really quiet. Guy walks in asking for a Covid test and says he has symptoms. Barely any concern. No separation. Just walk right in. Lol.

My feeling was that this is fake as fuck. Even the medical people don’t give a shit. Nobody asked if I had symptoms. Nobody asked if I had the jabber. Nobody is concerned at all here.

This is all media hype and coercion.

Last Monday, a group of doctors and one head nurse appeared on local TV in Savannah, Ga. TV saying that the hospitals were overwhelmed.

In Augusta, Ga., local news said that ambulances were being diverted because of lack of beds in certain hospitals. Over a thousand children are in quarantine.

Yesterday, the Georgia governor called in the National Guard to augment staff in certain hospitals in the state.

In Columbia, SC, 1700 students are in quarantine in one district. Lexington Medical has stated that there was,a serious staff shortage at the hospital.

Also in South Carolina, in June, the daily cases were a little over one hundred per day. This week, it's approaching 4,OOO per day.

As to number 3 on your list, the Delta variant is the reason. It's 1000 (official) times more contagious than the others.

Hmm, well that's interesting. My wife and I go out to shop at least once a week here in Cali. It's always busy out here so there's no way to avoid crowds. I would be really surprised if we both have not been exposed to it in 2020.

I knew someone recently back in my home states of Kansas, he is 77 or 78, and he got delta last week. He had to go to the hospital for a few days in Wichita. He was unvaxxed, and he recovered. No word on if he had permanent damage, but he did get out and seems okay.

With lane county having a population of 400k the fact that 50 sick people overwhelmed the healthcare system is the real doom not covid.

If we had the healthcare of Japan or Germany we should have 3,000 beds in the county enough to deal with those numbers 50 times over.

But like everything the Pacific northwest is woefully unprepared for a catastrophe event.

It's something that boggled my mind when I moved here.

No air condition, no preparation. No call boxes on the highways.

Hell half the bridges were built at the turn of the century and are delalpitated.

Honestly it's laughable, I lost power for 24 days during the massive snowstorm 2 years ago.

Luckily Im aware of how unprepared they are and have off grid systems to compensate.

The only way we had our roads cleared was locals with their tractors.

Just because we have a criminally inadequate healthcare and infrastructure system doesn't mean we have a covid problem.

We have a Portland problem...

In Indiana, the news reports say we now have more cases everyday than we ever had at the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020. There were over 5,000 new cases yesterday in a single day and 10 deaths in my County alone!

Honestly , I would not even know of Covid if it wasn't for the news and work emails. But we seem to have over 260ish people that tested positive for Covid at work since it came out last year. We have to wear mask at work and they are pushing the vaccine as hard as they push LGTBQQ b.s..I figure it won't be long before they say the clot shot is mandatory. Then I guess 22 years working here are down the drain ...

In last 2 days, more than *4k new cases per day

* This is the highest number since January

I look for tomorrow to be above 5k new cases. We will see.
