It'll be ok. Lousyana gets pounded by worse things during mardigra.

This needs to be said and I think now is the time to say it:
Hurricane #Ida is the most dangerous hurricane to threaten southeast Louisiana since Katrina.

An evacuation order is in effect. Now is the time to help your neighbors find safety. Offer help. This one is the real deal.

The 12z HWRF is just in, and it shows a 938mb / 115kt Category 4 just before landfall south of New Orleans.

Ida is on its way to becoming a monster hurricane.

Doom on Firefleye.

New Orleans Mayor has ordered mandatory evacuations.

Might become a cat 4 or 5. Wasn't forecasted to become a hurricane until after Cuba.

A lot of evacuation questions about where to go. Here is the general area to avoid Ida's impacts over the next few days. Go to the areas in green or surrounding communities if you are told to evacuate and able to travel. #Ida

Remember, altho Katrina did get to cat 5, by the time it got to shore it was a cat 3. However Ida is forecast to landfall as a cat 4, so this could be worse?

Katrina was a giant storm in size. It was going through an eyewall replacement when it came onshore which brings additional complexities. Honestly we aren't going to know until early morning Sunday but the potential for extreme wind damage would be far greater at this point. Storm surge will be based on the angle of landfall and size. If it landfalls just west of New Orleans it could be pretty devastating.

We're talking 10 to 15 inches of rainfall over large portions of south Louisiana. With the rainfall that's happened today, along with Ida, there could be significant inland flooding. Extreme flooding from New Orleans to Houma to south Tangipahoa

up now: '#HurricaneIda has developed way ahead of schedule. It will be a pretty strong Cat 4 when it makes landfall. Possible sustained winds of 140 mph with gusts up to 170 mph. Stronger than Laura last year. This will be life altering storm.' #lagov

Dropsonde just found a 76 mph gust at the surface that's not even in the eyewall. I think that basically confirms that Ida hasn't really weakened over Cuba.
