An evacuation order is in effect. Now is the time to help your neighbors find safety. Offer help. This one is the real deal. Currently @currently · 1h The 12z HWRF is just in, and it shows a 938mb / 115kt Category 4 just before landfall south of New Orleans. Ida is on its way to becoming a monster hurricane. It was going through an eyewall replacement when it came onshore which brings additional complexities. Honestly we aren't going to know until early morning Sunday but the potential for extreme wind damage would be far greater at this point. Storm surge will be based on the angle of landfall and size. If it landfalls just west of New Orleans it could be pretty devastating. |
