Vaccine Question - What if it's always an either or ?
Just rambling thoughts as I wait for dinner...

Let's say we have a group of people.

One has a strong immune system and never gets sick.

One is average immune system. Gets sick every other year.

Third one gets sick all the time and has bad health in general.

All of them get a flu shot.

The first one has no flu symptoms all year.
The second gets a little bit sick for a day or so but is mostly fine.
Third one gets sick. Mild at first, but then has complications and dies.

Did the flu shot work?

Would the outcome be any different without it?

How do they rate the effectiveness? Do they say it has a 66% reduction in death?
But the first guy would have probably been fine without it and the second guy would have just had another day or 2 off work.
Third guy might have had lesser symptoms but still died.

I just don't think they can attribute effectiveness when there is no way to compare before and after for a single person.

It all comes down to each person's own immune system to do the work. Vaccines are not medicines and don't fight the invader in any way. They just sort of try to give you a diagram of the enemy, which may not even be necessary when you will see the real thing eventually. I don't think a "head start" is really worth what they have to do to give it to you.

Statistics are an art form, not a science.

One of the first things taught in statistics is how to make the numbers say whatever you want.

The only way we would have a semblance of truth would be if they agreed on a standard protocol to follow when it comes to reporting and sculpting numbers. However, there simply isn't.

I have sat in the lab and quite literally listened to scientists go "Well, these are bad results, so they must belong in pile B" while completely ignoring that they came from pile A. They simply convince themselves that it's not possible and something must have been reported wrong because the numbers aren't going in the direction they think they should.

In other words, even if the research design is good (which it rarely is), you still have to deal with the extreme bias of the researchers.
I don't know what lies they told you, but I can promise they were lies.

There's a fine line between training, trauma, and torture.

The flu shot can kill you, many people still gets the flu. I never have taken one, thousands die even after taking the flu shot. You know that each shot has to go through trials before market and there has to be a new one every year with flu shots, the flu strain is never known until it starts, you're having the least and sometimes they worse strains can give you a better chance to fight off the horrible ones, this is where natural immunity comes in.
Sorry I got a headache

^^This. Medicine is not a perfect science either and never will be, especially when the data is skewed to meet the hypothesis/agenda.

And that is the problem. People think "studies" that produce "statistics" are the same thing as "Science".

If they don't follow rigorous scientific method, it is nothing but a commercial for the outcome the one financing it asked for.

Believing in paid studies is more often denying science lately.
