As the earth is heating the gases are expanding and seeping out. The gases, a combination of the ones mentioned and others that have not, (s4lph4r and m3th4ne) pool in low-lying areas and around the waterways. Because of the drought, the gases follow down the old creeks, rivers and waterholes. The gulches and gullies are a perfect spot for these gases to gather.

S4lph4r river is nearby on the map.

They are toxic with explosive properties and that is why the Hazmat crew has been called in. A strong indicator of fire for the region and more asphyxiations.

This is happening all along the Sierra Nevadas and is adding to the fires that "suddenly burst into flames".

The first thing to go is the ability to think clearly, so to be able to think their way out of a deadly situation is gone.

Doing my morning research and this story pops up. A perfect example of a person dying in a river/low-lying area where the gases can seep out and cause death or a "sudden burst of flames".

Why take a baby on such a long foot path to a remote campsite? Sure a short day hike, but a camping trip? Hauling all the gear and a baby that is also getting ready to walk around at 1 years old? Does not sound like a responsible thing to do.

Could be. They were hiking near some abandoned gold mines. Toxic algae can also produce hydrogen sulfide (H2S). I hope they do autopsies and toxicology reports to find what killed them.

Perhaps the dog ate a "Death Angel" mushroom (a very lethal fungus that looks almost exactly like the mushrooms in the supermarket.)The adults thought the mushrooms were safe because the dog didn't hesitate to eat it.

CO is a lighter than air gas. Not probable. That leaves the other one which is heavier than air and rides on the ground.

The outdoors is no longer safe. An example of a group of people losing their lives in our beautiful recreational outdoors. It can happen to any of us.
