I have said many times that you can make a small start on most projects for 100USD.

What if one person spent 50USD per month and sponsored one person in Afghanistan? That would be the start of UBI/UBW.

Actually, there will be some sincere NGOs in Afghanistan. One of the major issues is they don't get MSM support. Once the MSM started popularizing Local Regeneration Projects, they would really take off.

Politically, I would ask the current government to take a softer, more moderate stance on Islam, in return for aid. You want to tread very lightly with politics, and just start building, once you have permission.

I'd make sure to translate any PR materials into Mandarin, and ask Taiwanese, Chinese, Singapore and Hong Kong funds to contribute.

There are a few pitfalls with crowdfunding in Afghanistan.

One: Crowdfunding goals are typically too large, with unclear or opaque cost breakdowns. Instead of one 20,000USD project, it's better to have 100 micro-projects raising 200USD each.

Two: A large percentage of the population in Afghanistan may not have access to Paypal or bank accounts. Local innovators have normally worked out alternatives to Paypal blockages. In my experience, it takes about 10-20 hours of research time to work out how to get money to a low-infrastructure nation.

I do not see these initiatives as "foreign-aid" or "charity". The West has made a mess of Afghanistan, and is therefore obliged to start paying its unpayable debts to those people.

There's no reason his program could not be scaled infinitely...

- Contact him.
- Ask him to provide more documentation and proof of what he's doing (videos are always good).
- Ask him how he would scale the project.
- Set fair goals, and provide more funds.
- Popularize the project, and invite others to set up similar initiatives.
- Give the current project manager 20 hours of well paid consultant work to write clear, succinct documentation, and train others to set up their own funds.
