My Dad knew an Operator who would get dropped behind enemy lines for 3 weeks at a time with a sniper rifle.....Kill as many as possible....don't get caught...Pick you up at "X" 30-50 miles away in 3 weeks...

He got wounded one time during exfil and woke up already in a body bag on the helo when they landed....

THEY WERE BAD MFers!!

My brother did three tours in Nam as an advisor to the ARVN and they worshipped him like a god and gave him medals galore because he knew what he was doing and was a badass. The VC/NVA avoided his outfits like the plague--if they could. My brother was relatively fearless, but he was afraid of the HALO jumping hell raising, independent operators and professional assassins of the SOG groups. They were given improbable and impossible missions deep in Injun country, and were on their own often for weeks at a time. Not for the unfit or the faint of heart. The stories were unbelievable, if you could get one to talk. Go anywhere-do anything-come back and get ready for the next one.

I can't even imagine the mental fortitude. Men of an extremely rare caliber.

I did some digging and watched some YouTube on them. Most units took 90 to 100% casualties. There were only a couple hundred of these guys at any given timein SOG.

They didn't look like Schwarzenegger either. They were lean and fit.

The Shriver story is incredible.

I'm impressed OP. Thanks for the introduction.
