Anonymous Coward User ID: 80570749 United States 08/12/2021 09:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The "escape route" out of Afghanistan to the north into the Stans is now cut off. The "escape route" west into Iran is also cut off (as if the Iranians would open up that newly constructed rail line for Americans to use to being with) The "escape route" east and southeast into Pakistan is problematic with most routes now closed The ONLY way out for the Americans NOW is by air ... and for that they not only have to continue to control the airport but have to make sure the Taliban do NOT use anti aircraft rockets (ie: shoulder fired and bigger) against incoming and outgoing transport planes. The Afghans are NOT nice when it comes to having an occupying force on the run. In 1842 the British learned that lesson: "Out of more than 16,000 people from the column commanded by Elphinstone, only one European (Assistant Surgeon William Brydon) and a few Indian sepoys reached Jalalabad." Are the Afghans going to follow their own history and PUNISH the foreigners who tried (AGAIN) to control Afghanistan? |

That and unless you are prepared to fight and kill the enemy until they are defeated, then you are simply delaying their inevitable return to power. The muslims are a patient, multi generational thinking group. They understood that, much like the Russians did, all you have to do is wait them out. Everyone eventually leaves. Except for the Taliban. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 75051814 United States 08/12/2021 10:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It is a brigade from the 82nd Airborne division. Quoting: TeknaBuzz There is some news about the quickly deteriorating situation the past few days but as you can imagine it's way worse than anything see on the news. Lots of beheading and executions are being conducted by taliban as they now gain control of most of Afghanistan. I'm so angry with how this administration has handled this withdrawl of forces and so much of our military equipment is now in the hands of taliban. It was never about defeating taliban. Should have been angry at the lies that got them there in the first place. |

Are the Afghans going to follow their own history and PUNISH the foreigners who tried (AGAIN) to control Afghanistan? They have already issued the ultimatum. Surrender Kabul peacefully, occupation government steps aside, and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan returns as the governing system. IF they don't comply, God help the Americans and their satraps. |

Then they all surrendered, many joined the Taliban, and all teh equipment goes to the Taliban. |

Farmers there will be forced to plant real crops and provide food. Or be executed. Quoting: TeknaBuzz I think this going to be bad for our troops. A brigade is a hell of a lot of troops to be providing withdrawal security. the Taliban don't mess around, they beat both china and russia, their credentials are rock solid! (Superior air power, organized structure, outnumbers Taliban forces and better weaponry) Taliban is trying to isolate Kabul Troops are going into harms way Bulk of troops will be in Kabul by Sunday Airlifts will be capable of moving 1000s per day Speed of taliban advancements is concerning Spokesman won't speak on battlefield assessment of current situation surrounding Kabul's access routes. (Wouldn't confirm or deny that Kabul is completely cutoff) Key thing he said was that the Pentagon said they're not surprised at how quickly the Taliban has taken over which contradicts what Biden said just a month ago. Biden said a month ago that the Taliban was incapable of taking over Afghanistan. Meanwhile UN Secretary says Afghanistan spinning out of control. TeknaBuzz |

Getting ready to evacuate the embassy just like the fall of Saigon Taliban within 60-90 days of taking Kabul, per Gen Jack Keane citing CIA revised estimates ( no link, was radio discussion yesterday) 60-90 days? NATO has a special meeting now to evacuate all of its staff. Germany will give visas to its Afghan staff/interpreters and their families when they reach German territory, i.e. absolutely urgent to leave NOW. Taliban are only 50 km 30 miles south of Kabul. Therefore the need of 3,000 marines to keep them out until they evacuate everyone including Afghan staff like translators. Taliban could enter tomorrow otherwise. They said however they would not attack embassies. Links [link to www.dw.com (secure)] [link to www.rt.com (secure)] [link to www.bbc.com (secure)] |

It is turning our once allies into enemies. Saw a video on twitter showing the Taliban taking control of 2 helicopters in a hanger. It's going to get ugly when we start trying to destroy the equipment that has fallen into the hands of taliban. And I expect lots of propaganda from collateral damage. TeknaBuzz |

The fact that they're destroying everything means they're planning to completely abandon the Embassy. Rumors speculate that we may destroy the Embassy once we leave. Also new reports coming in now that heavy fighting is ongoing near the capitol city of Kabul. First wave of Marines arrived earlier but I can't find anything credible that would indicate that its our Marines doing the fighting. TeknaBuzz |
