Kandahar didn't 'fall' at all. IT was always the Taliban's city. They started there for Christ's sake! What's happening is America's allies are just joining the Taliban's government without realyl fighting at all. They're turning all their weapons over and either joining the march to Kabul or going home to tend to their goats or whatever. The US leaders thought they had them all 'on side', bought, trained, and paid for - that they'd stand and fight the Taliban after the US pulled most of their troops out - thus causing a massive civil slaughter. This didn't happen. Now, they've all panicked and are rushing troops in to make a final stand in Kabul. The problem here is the Afghans in the remaining units stationed in Kabul - ostensibly allied to the US-backed government - may just go 'green on blue' as the Talibsan issue their ultimatum to the Kabul regime to turn the city over peacefully, step aside, and let nature take its course. Looks like the defeated US will be the only ones fighting to save the sinking ship...

Agreed, we should have feigned a pullout and had a major country wide force ready to drop in and annihilate the rats when they came out of their holes.
