(OP) User ID: 80037766 United States 08/12/2021 01:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I still am seeing the green stripe on some yt videos, but I don't think it's restarted itself yet...lol, on Hulu (while using Chrome) after making a screeching electronic sound that would startle me every time, and then the blue screen of death comes up, it just restarts. This was happening as much as 10-12 times a day.... So, resetting was an attempt to see if it would fix the video streaming problems, we just ran into the other problem while trying to download my folder to be saved elsewhere. I can live with the occasional stripe on yt, bitchute, etc. videos for a couple of months, it's fairly transparent, but the restarting like its doing is getting on my last nerve. I can order a new laptop next week, but I'd rather wait a few months....there's another pricey item I want to get much more than having to buy a new laptop....but I require a good running machine. I do suspect it's the video card, but this laptop is around three years old, so paying to have someone else diagnose it, get whatever part is needed, and to fix it just seems a waste of money to me. I might as well just get a new one. My son says he thinks it's the motherboard, because the video card is attached to the motherboard, and those are not cheap. Our local computer business wants $179 just to drop your machine off and, if my son's use of them is any indication, they charge out the wazoo for parts and any work they do. He ordered his own part, their quote for the part was hundreds of more dollars. I just don't want to be without a machine, if even for a couple of days. I write, so I need my computer, plus it's my complete entertainment system. Heh, I had this laptop for over a year without even opening the box, because I wanted to be prepared, and it was gotten at a great sales price. So, I'm just waiting to see how it takes to the reset, if it's going to stop restarting. I dunno, it's hard to have faith that it fixed it - given its age and the problem, but I am hopeful.... I tried to download Chrome, but it's like it kept reloading to the start of the download. For an hour this went on. I just cancelled the download, and I'm finished with Chrome. Me attempting to download it was to see if there would be a problem with it. Don't buy another computer and junk the one you have. Put Lubuntu on it. Lubuntu will run on anything. You might need a nerd friend to get wifi working though. |

Because I'm such a techno dodo brain, it will give me piece of mind to have a new laptop, rather than the mess I've been dealing with for the past few months. I can afford a new one, but I'd rather not have to right this month....and it restarting all the time is making me a little batty, plus it's making me think it's about ready to die. I'll ask my friend who was helping me out yesterday about Lubuntu and linux. If she thinks she can do it, and get it to working correctly with wifi, then maybe....but I would not be looking forward to that.
