* Ask on 'Freecycle' and neighborhood 'Buy Nothing' groups

* Sites listing where fruit trees are available to pick, wild raspberries, etc. now

You can grow hot pepper plants inside, and they have vitamin c and so forth if you're otherwise living off ramen. You can get enough for seeds for a few cents from the store. They're under $1 / lb at expensive grocery stores now, cheaper from ethnic ones.
