I'm not complainin', but this is about my/our HIPPA Rights, and how prepared is a CSR agent to take in that response

I had to call to make an appt. to get a ride to a doctors appt., this a courtesy my insurance provides.

The customer service rep started asking me a series of questions. Then he came to the question, "Have you been vaccinated?"

I told him he was violating my HIPPA Rights by asking me.

"Uhhhh...", I heard.

I then asked him if he even realized he was violating my HIPPA rights by asking.

He was quiet for a few moments and said he just needed to ask these questions....and I do understand he's only doing his job.

I said he needed to respond to that by writing that the question violated my rights, and I'm not answering the question, especially not over the phone to someone I have no idea who they are. He said okay.

I then said - it just came right out of my mouth - "I know I'm going on a list. Because no matter whether vaxxed or not, or if we refuse to answer the question, we're all going on some kind of list....the good list, the naughty list, or a defiant list."

He didn't say anything.

We finished our business, and I told him to have a great day, and he said the same to me....heh, I didn't get all up in his "face" like I did yesterday on the phone with the mail worker (which really wasn't as bad as I can get in the face of stupidity). I learned a lesson from that yesterday.


I used to do CSR for a few years. We were trained how to respond to every single possible question that could be asked. This guy didn't seem to know a thing to say about me responding to him about the HIPPA Act...."Uhhhh....."

That surprises me the most of all, that he didn't have some pat response for that.

Is it just that they don't expect the population to know that it's a violation of one of our rights, and to say I'm not answering that question to you, a CSR agent, because so few people ever give this response, and it comes as a surprise to them?

Maybe he was new or under-trained, but he sure got the rest of it taken care of with no problem....in fact, he was the one who set up a new appt. date with the doctor office. He knew what he was doing.

It seems odd to me that they don't have a pat response to someone (like me) basically stating that it's none of their business, especially a CSR agent's business, to ask about anyone else's medical record.
