I walk to it. It's not at my front door. Quoting: cosmicgypsy SO, I go to check my mail, and the whole damn box was gone.... I called the 1-800 number for USPS.... don't ever do that. All automated, and you've got to listen to two COVID messages, before anything else...which for me was nothing. I didn't call my local post office first, because those guys rarely answer their phone. But I then tried them, and someone picked the phone up before the first ring even finished. I was so happy!.... Silly me. He told me that weather erosion had done too much damage, and they had to remove it. He said they've ordered a new one, and they're HOLDING THE MAIL....oh.my.gawd. I told him I'm to be getting my replacement driver's license, that I needed it, I don't have a vehicle to get to the post office, and could he please just have the mail person deliver it to me? "We can't do that, ma'am"....he said in a flat, monotone voice. I asked him why, why can't that mail person who's delivering the mail to the other boxes, just bring my mail by? "Ma'am, we can't do that"....the motherfucker! I launched into him so completely and fully gypsy-style, and then hung up the phone. Couldn't help myself. It's just more of the malarkey, and it pisses me off....and I kinda feel bad for him, because I'm not the only one calling them, unhappy. There were I think 12 individual boxes, maybe 16. I dunno, is my, ahem, unhappiness about this just a product of my age, being older, and remembering the mailman as a nice and helpful guy? They are so tight-lipped, no emotion, when I go to the office. I feel like I'm getting spleeged when in that office. Anyway....yeah, this is my day. Now I have to figure out how to get my license, and I'm not taking the bus and then walking, too, and I'm not paying $15 for a cab also. Maybe my son's girlfriend will take me. I know, I know.....1st World Problems..... But really, it's just more evidence of the erosion of our gov't. Really unclear why you can't go pick up your mail in your own vehicle. Your license should be good until you get the new one, there's an overlap, you know...or if you have a temporary paper license. That said, just drive careful and when you get to the PO you'll have your license...I mean geez. If you get pulled over, the cop can see that you have a valid license in his computer. This is a random situation, very rare, and the Federal Law is that your mail has to go in your mailbox, and if your mailbox is unserviceable, that's that. Now if you live in Mayberry with Andy Griffith and Opie and Aunt Bea, and your Mailman (yes, man) who is Lily White and wears the old-school police hat and says things like "swell" "Gosh" or "Golly!" or "Shucks" and "Ma'am" and so on... He *might* just make sure he grabs your mail and gives it to you. But you sort of sound like a person who is hysterical and all energy and emo about Mail delivery. It's 2021...you shouldn't be receiving anything in the mail that is terribly timely or important at this point. I retired, and my work car of course went back to the company. Jeebus, if I had my own car, I just would've popped down there. My temp license is still in date. Anonymous Coward User ID: 40956866 United States 08/03/2021 04:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Not surprised, couple months ago ordered something to be delivered to my business and the company sent it in one of those flat rate boxes. It was about 50 pounds so the delivery guy drops a slip off at the front desk they he cannot delivery it and i would have to drive 30 miles to pick it up because it was too heavy. Drive to the annex had to wait 15 minutes for the clerk to find it then another 10 minutes to find a scanner and then after that the manager walks over and says there is postage due in the amount of $72 because the sender only paid for one pound. Now these flat rate boxes have the words flat rate written multiple times and everyside of the box but the manager would not give me the box unless i gave him $72. I refused after going in circles for 5 minutes but now understand why they are losing billions every year. |

I called the post office & talked to the postal inspector a long time ago because we got a big check in the mail. The Inspector said I should send it to him to help him investigate the matter. He said a lot of these places send out fake checks from Canada-ours came from Canada-to avoid USA laws..... He was so nice. Where we live now, our local post office doesn't answer their phone either (like yours). We're signed up with that online mail delivery thing where you can see what's coming to your mailbox before it gets there and they can't even get that right. I get 5 pictures of mail for 1 day & when the mail arrives, only 3 or 4 are there. Then we get other peoples' mail and they get ours.....yes the post office sux. They should let UPS deliver the mail. |

Just so you know, UPS gives us a great deal of their mail to deliver. You don't understand how it works and what can go wrong that is independent of human error. I know only too well. Post Office undercuts UPS & FEDEX and DHL on packages because the taxpayers bail them out. Sometimes UPS STARTS the packages and then hands them off to USPS for the final delivery. UPS delivers me a package today and then the mail delivers me a package (not to my house but in a community mailbox) the same day but THAT package was supposed to be here 3 or 4 days ago. UPS coulda got it here quicker. They are always on my street. USPS has so many misdeliveries & lost so many letters, checks....they suck. Everything the government touches turns to sh*t. And then there are the packages that are busted open and/or contents broken/destroyed. Call the sender & what do they do-they have UPS come & pick up the package that USPS screwed up. Why doesn't USPS pick their own destroyed package up?! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 77889465 United States 08/03/2021 05:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They aren't doing anything that requires them actually coming face to face with the end consumer / receiver of packages / mail. For example, shipping some of my products require an adult signature. This is a $6 fee and if I do not process my mail with it, I can be fined if caught. BUT, they are not gathering signatures due to COVID and just deliver the package anyways, signed "C19." So what the fuck am I paying $6 for? So I don't get fined and thrown in jail? Seems like extortion by the FED for USPS. |

Ii cant have a mailbox, but everybody else in the neighborhood does. We have to go to a box around the corner. Because the cul-de-sac people aren't good enough I guess. At least you get a mailbox. I'm surprised they are getting you one. Usually you have to provide your own. |

(OP) User ID: 80037766 United States 08/03/2021 05:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have let it go now, the incident with the post office. There's nothing I can do about them, ya know? And then I had something else to let go of, how the erosion of our gov't. - the whole shit and shebang show, all of it - and all the fallout from this fucking administration and our country's "history"....heh, it's been pissing me off, big time. I know I'm not alone in that. I'm constantly working on my anger with that, keeping it at a mild roar, and I do more positive things with my time, and anger can't live in my positivity-zone. And then I sat here and thought about what my imperative was, my reason for coming back to this load of human beings having been led into fucking everything up....I came back here, a Wanderer, to bust the hell right out of this system. Many of us came back to do just this....and it is starting to happen right before our eyes. I sat here and thought, 'I should be reveling in this, not freaking complaining about the inconvenience of not having my mail delivered to me, like it should be'. They are fuckups, the whole gov't is....and they are making my "job" easy at this point. I'm okay now. I have other things on my plate today too, so....yeah. I just had to center myself, and get to the root of my issue. Most often, it's not what I think it could be. When I posted this thread, it wasn't eeeven occurring to me that I should be reveling, instead. Reveling I am now. And for the OP, be happy the Post Office is getting you a new mailbox, most times they require you to replace it before delivering to you again. And just think how long a carrier would take to deliver if half his route wanted him to get out and deliver to the door. They only do that if you can provide a medical excuse.
