Re: Do You Know What You are in For If You Need Major Surgery?
Numerous calls to the Surgeon and several follow up visits with him still no pain relief. Mom was in a wheel chair and I was desperate.

At the third consult after the Procedure The Dr. Recommended a Pain Management Clinic. We called the ones recommended by them and the appointments were booked out two months or longer. Mom would not make it this long. (Here is where pre planning would of helped had we known). A friend had back surgery about a month before Mom I happened to run into her and we talked about her situation.

She mentioned a Pain Management Clinic in Harrisburg that she went to after her operation. We called them the next day and they scheduled a Saturday Consult.

The Consultation went well and they said her pain was due to numerous areas of muscle spasm all along her spine. The best course of treatment to remedy this would be numerous small injections along her back. The Doctor would use Ultrasound to locate the spasms then inject the area with a cocktail of anti-inflammatories and numbing medicine.

The ultrasound and Injections would be started the following Monday and would continue on Wednesday and Friday. These injections would be reevaluated after 3 weeks Depending upon how Mom felt.

The first session went well they did the injections and gave her a place to lie down after the Doctor was finished. He injected a total of 4 different sites and said she could only have this much of the drugs injected at once. She staid on their exam table for about an hour afterword's and was able to walk out of the office with her pain level greatly reduced.

The pain level was at an 8 when she went in and about a 4 when she left. Over the next several hours the pain level dropped even further and she was able to get a good nights sleep.

Do you have any recommendations for Covid shot pain? A person I know shakes. Three are dead. The other lost their limbs.

Her pain level would rise then the next series of shots would reduce it so she could function. She was still on restricted lifting and had to be careful about what she did. She was able to walk around without assistance and was sleeping much better.

At the 3 week level they extended the routine of ultrasound and injections with a trial session of soft tissue therapy added. For anyone who is wondering Mom said the Shots did not hurt.

The soft tissue therapy was meant to strengthen the surrounding muscles allowing her to go longer in between the shots.

I had a triple bypass in Nov. 2019.

2nd day after surgery, was out of ICU. 3 days later, came home. Never had to worry about pain meds. EASY recovery, and I HAVE the scar to prove it happened.

I hope I never need surgery, but thank you for posting. I am sure this will help others prepare. I hate pain....a molar extraction was my worst, even more than birthing babies all natural.

Maybe grow poppies, slit the heads and save the latex. Its about 1/10 the strength of opium so I've read.

They put her on a schedule of Injections Twice a week and Soft Tissue Massage 3x. This would continue and be adjusted as her progress dictated.

They asked if she would consider Stem Cell injections but we had to decline because Medicare would not pay for them. The Dr. said the success rate was very high but it was cost prohibitive. This actually would be like adding new nerve cells.

The were also considering a brand new therapy where embryonic fluid would be injected into her back to help the existing nerves regrow.

It's all a big joke, on the patient.

I had back surgery July last year, they gave me five days worth of light pain med. Still in pain over a year later, but I have kratom, until the FDA takes that away too, and they're working hard on doing that. They want an international ban.

I wonder why I'm destined to finish my life in constant pain.

Neighbor with kidney cancer, had a kidney removed, they sent him home with ten pills, five days worth. He has to take an ambulance ride to go in for pain control.

Re: Do You Know What You are in For If You Need Major Surgery?
The Pain Management Practice decided to send her to see a Physical Therapist to Strengthen the other areas of the back. The shots and soft tissue were doing well and the pain level was controlled.

Mom picked the PT Clinic which was close to her house. After an evaluation and one treatment she had to stop it was to much and her pain level rose greatly.

So right back to the Pain Management Clinic for Shots and Soft Tissue Massage 3x per week. It was then that I asked if Mom would be a Candidate for Pa's Medical Mamajuana Program for Pain Relief and to help her Sleep. The Doctor said yes and Told us of a local Clinic that would take care of all of the necessary paperwork. (In Harrisburg)

There was an over the phone consultation and an extensive questionnaire that was sent to the Dr. who would give her the evaluation and see if she qualified. Her records were sent over from the Original surgeon and the Pain Management Practice.

The Dr. then said she met the criteria to enter Pennsylvania's Medical Mamajuana Program.

I had L5 fusion in 2008, it was the most painful recovery I’ve ever experienced. They did give me Percocet which I still take because there is an hairline part that didn’t fuse. I did water therapy and then physical therapy. It really took over a year for the pain to become manageable with the pain meds. It will get better overtime and maybe there will be some residual chronic pain.

I don’t like being dependent on pain meds but I do appreciate the relief it gives me and it allows me to work. The work I do is physical as I am unable to sit for long period of time.

Please give your mom my blessings and prayers. It will get better but she will need a lot of your love and patience. So sorry she had to go through this!

Re: Do You Know What You are in For If You Need Major Surgery?
So Mom needed a Pa Medical Marijuana card which was approved but cost $50.00 for the State application fee. Her consult with the approving Dr. was $200.00.

Within a week she had her card so the next order of business was a consultation with a local prescribing pharmacy. This was scheduled for a week later so we could all be there to help her answer any questions.

During the Pharmacist interview which lasted about an hour they went over all of her existing medications. This was to check for any side affects. She also went over all of the possible interactions with the use of THC and CBD products as well as dosage, frequency and relief time.

She was prescribed 2 tinctures Hope and Dream. "Hope" was to be used during the day for Pain and "Dream" at Night to help with sleep and pain. She was also given a rub on thick cream that was to be applied to any sore back areas. If anyone helped her do this they were instructed to wear latex gloves.

Since she is so small Mom was told to start out on a dose that is 1/4 the amount given to an average sized person.

Tomorrow starts her third day of medical Marihuana and her pain level has been lowered from a 4 to just over a 2.
She also went back to the Pain Management Dr. Clinic in Harrisburg and the last ultrasound showed no muscle spasms.

She will start increasing her physical activity in about a week then the tinctures will be adjusted as needed. They wanted to give her some time to have the THC/CBD in her system to see how it reacted.

So all in all this entire ordeal took almost 8 months of trying to figure out a plan for her recovery then working with the medical profession to implement it.

I will check on this tomorrow and see if anyone has any advice or questions.

A level tablespoon in five ounces of warm water with sugar, three to five times a day. Just have to watch for constipation.

Works best on nerve pain, but doesn't eliminate all pain. Did totally eliminate IBS-D, so that's good for me.

The CDC is responsible. They have posters in every hospital room.

The opioid "EPIDEMIC"

Their fake "epidemic" and "pandemic" has destroyed this country.

Isolation of morphine from the opium poppy was once a great scientific achievement. The war on pain... now the war on pain patients.

Same old story... you have 2 camps. Those who demonize it and those who understand why its needed. Most of what people believe comes from the media so whatever the media says is the truth these days.

You can buy pain killers online, whatever you want. It can be expensive because you can't use insurance. I buy Trammadal, which is an opiate like herion or morphine. 100 caps cost about $200.

A long lost acquaintance of mine found a recipe on an online forum a few years ago for some homemade painkillers. My acquaintance was writing a book about a fictional character with unmanaged chronic pain. In the book, the fictional character used this recipe by combining the unwashed variety of poppy seeds, a little bit of fresh lemon juice, and some water into a water bottle, shaking it for several minutes, straining the contents of the mixture, and then drinking a tiny bit of the remaining liquid with a tablet of Benadryl, to quickly and easily create pain medicine at home. It was a silly book. Obviously never got published.
