What exactly do you think will happen? Doesn't seem even close to 911. Many people will get booted out for not paying rent, can't say I feel sorry for them. I was out of work due to family medical needs and had to use my 401K to pay rent, and if I ran out I had a plan to move. I don't know why people think they can live rent free.
 Quoting: Keilani

DUH because they shut down the economy last year. I know MANY workaholics who couldn't work last year for months because they worked at bars and restaurants in New Orleans that were closed. They didn't do anything wrong. Even if they had a little savings NO ONE could have planned for that. It was tyrannical and not in any way predictable.

Exactly.

The Government also know this but fail to act not especially when they created the very plandemic and lockdown circumstances that are the end result of the situation these people now find themselves in.

Edit to ADD that many people, like me, have been gainfully self employed and have no 401k, and didn't get unemployment or SNAP. Imagine suddenly NO income, no benefits, and no fault of yours. I guess you can't wrap your head around that.

Its like building 7. They essentially pulled the plug and let the building fall.

If they dont fix the eviction problem by Wednesday, the only logically conclusion is that this is nothing compared to what is coming and much, much worse is coming.

The flip side of the coin... you are screwing countless landlords out their source of income.

YOU can't be homeless, but if you're business is being a landlord, it's okay for THEM to become homeless? Because none of your tenants have paid rent in over a year and counting.

Not every landlord is gigantic corporation.

How fucked up can America get... seems to be a competition these days.

Landlords are greedy you begin with, they are more interested in not being sued for running a substandard dwelling that booting people out and jack the rent, so nobody can afford to move in. Since most renters will be tied to welfare, the rent and utilities go straight to the companies, so nobody can bet behind.
If the current renters had paid their rent on time, there would be no justification for the move.

I agree.

I have a tenant. The first month of lockdown, I cut his rent so he could prep. Several months after that, I paid for the materials and his time to renovate the bathroom and do superficial repairs on the outside. Why?

You can't find a renter like mine. His place is immaculate. He chases me down to pay the rent. I travel a lot and he wants to make sure I have his check on the 1st. I laugh at him and tell him that I will waive the late charges if I am back weeks after the first.

Seriously, if you are renting to shitty people its your fault. Fix it after the moratorium. Shitty people dont deserve housing.

Going home now to clean my house, lol, because I cant have my tenant being cleaner than me lol.

The most valuable skill you can have as a human being is flexibility and adaptability. Who is it that says, “Adapt, Improvise, Overcome?” If you don’t know, learn. You’re all soldiers now in a fight to save humanity and also to stay alive.

That means if you worked in a bar or a restaurant that got shut down because of “covid,” you don’t just give up on life and stop paying rent forever and ever, amen.

You get a different job. You drive or deliver for a living. You find something else to do or learn a variety of skills so you won’t have to suffer at the hands of some authority who knows less than you but wants to legislate their way into your body and pockets.
A big majority of people go through life just reacting badly to random bad things that happen to them instead of having enough foresight to predict when things are bound to happen and plan accordingly. Everyone’s car is going to break down. Everyone’s health is going to fail. Your employer is not your friend. One day you’ll hate where you live and want to change that. These are things that happen to all of us, it’s not a sign of bad luck. How you react to it is indicative of your level of planning and anticipation and also your level of success in overcoming.

anyone else recall that web bots prediction, of displaced people living in empty shopping malls and the like? i see that as likely when TSHTF, as such places offer both shelter AND a way to "stick it" to the ruling class [for letting things get to that point].
 Quoting: a passing cloud

Makes sense. Those empty shopping malls are magnificent structures. They should be repurposed. Even if unheated it's far better than being out in the elements.

Like in NYC, homeless live in the subways. Those are even better because they are heated. They sleep along the walls, they don't bother anyone, you just walk a bit out from the walls.
