Its like building 7. They essentially pulled the plug and let the building fall.

If they dont fix the eviction problem by Wednesday, the only logically conclusion is that this nothing compared to what is coming and much, much worse is coming.
 Quoting: @Ohwell

Wednesday? I suspect lanlords will be sending out eviction notices tomorrow. They aren't going to let any grass grow under their feet on tenants who haven't paid their rent in a year or more.

and congress left for a 6 week vacation on Friday....they aren't going to be fixing anything by Friday.
 Quoting: Baloney

i wish they could go in over the weekend and evict them all by force at gunpoint to be 100% honest

Pay your rent, people. Or buy a tent. The choice is YOURS to make. It's not the government's place to manage your life and finances for you.

This is retarded.

How long do you think building owners can go without rent receipts, when they have to pay the underwriting mortgage banks?

Any and all bank payment deferments are NOT free. They are tacked on to the back of the loan, most often as a balloon payment, and are accruing additional interest why payments are not being made.

Some lenders are not even offering these deferments, and the landlords have had to eat the monthly payments, while no obe is paying them rent. How long before they go dead broke and the bank evicts you?

You think banks will be bleeding heart about it?

What exactly do you think will happen? Doesn't seem even close to 911. Many people will get booted out for not paying rent, can't say I feel sorry for them. I was out of work due to family medical needs and had to use my 401K to pay rent, and if I ran out I had a plan to move. I don't know why people think they can live rent free.

Excellent. Even when the government gives you an immoral and dishonorable choice it should not be taken.

I would do the same as you. Pay my bills until I could not and then move if I could not pay. I would never dishonor myself by screwing somebody else out of the money I owed them.

I would rather live in a tent and be debt free than to steal from somebody by staying somewhere I could not pay for.

The government said it was ok but it was not. Everybody who did not pay their rent and stayed put is a f'n criminal and a dishonorable person.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77852475

Exactly. The government is neither now honorable nor have grown a conscience for not now putting up another moratorium after doing so for 4 times in the past year already.

Moral of the story is...they pulled the plug and this is just the start. Worse is around the corner.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79963023

I agree.

I have a tenant. The first month of lockdown, I cut his rent so he could prep. Several months after that, I paid for the materials and his time to renovate the bathroom and do superficial repairs on the outside. Why?

You can't find a renter like mine. His place is immaculate. He chases me down to pay the rent. I travel a lot and he wants to make sure I have his check on the 1st. I laugh at him and tell him that I will waive the late charges if I am back weeks after the first.

Seriously, if you are renting to shitty people its your fault. Fix it after the moratorium. Shitty people dont deserve housing.

Going home now to clean my house, lol, because I cant have my tenant being cleaner than me lol.

I'm not a renter but I have had to get very hungry and even use food banks because I had to save every stimulus check to pay my property taxes and home insurance.

Renters should have gone hungry to keep a roof over their heads too.

I see both sides . I am poor but honest and at least it is just me . We all know that some people took advantage of the system .
How about this ? My landlord sent us all a letter which I received Thursday saying as of the 23 of the last month the property had been sold . I called them and the new owner is coming by to talk to us . We are three stand alone properties out in a rural setting . Anyhow I have been here going two years . I always pay . I the latest I have been on rent it the fifth , which was one time . The office lady said it was a friend of his . The transaction has not been recorded as I looked . Funny how the eviction mort. is over and the new owner wants to talk to us . I am not in a lease as it was for just a year and then went to monthly . I think he is either going to raise the rent and or kick me out . How clever . Rent has went up 20 percent on av. in the county they have most of their properties . I just know something is off if not he would have just sent a letter . This is a rural area in N.C. What do you think ? Would you kick my out ?

Even though I don’t want people to be homeless because that’s just not right , But honestly most of them kinda deserve it, After 25 years in each Both my wife and I lost our jobs because of all this and we were one of the first people to become unemployed per we work with the public And both of us did what we had to do which was things like 12 hours a day of Uber , food delivery and other things to pay our bills , most but not all choose to do nothing

Letting the people get evicted is the fix to the problem. The problem was only the subverting of the laws to begin with and allowing people to amass debts without penalties.

That is not the renters property. The problem is not them getting evicted. The problem is them not paying their bills.

Letting their bills get larger and screwing more people they owe is moronic.

The rest of us who do pay are all having to pay more because the f'n government idiots are breaking the laws and allowing huge portions of the populace to not honor their contracts.

I don't give a F who you are or what it is. If you sign a contract you better honor it. Not honoring your contract results in its termination and penalties. It is as simple as that. Stop letting the dishonorable people rack up more debts.

I live in Michigan where we operate on a balanced budget. California is like the renters and mortgagers who are not paying. They just rack up more and more debt and make everything worse. Then next thing you know they want everyone else to bail them out and pay more for the crimes they committed in racking up those debts. F this communist shit. Either pay your bills or get the F out of what you cannot pay for.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77852475

Some of those evicted tenants have been saving up their money they would have otherwise pay for rent.

They'll have a down payment for a house now, or at least they should be able to rent elsewhere. If they leave voluntary without eviction they won't even have to admit they were evicted.

Rents should go down now because there will be a lot of empty apartments. Purchase prices should go up because some of the evicted will be looking to buy, and you can again (hopefully) rent out your property without being legally stiffed for the rent.
