Anonymous Coward User ID: 78818480 United States 07/31/2021 10:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | THAT is a great idea!!! But how would you sell it? A heaping teaspoon if instant coffee poured into a plastic baggie? Plastic baggies might be where it's at! How do you divide any commodity without baggies? I'm off to the store to buy baggies |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 80683520 United States 07/31/2021 10:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In a SHTF scenario or 'Post Collapse" scenario.... Bartering will NOT be necessary. Why? Because people will TAKE your stuff (by force if necessary) and not think twice. I've lived a homeless life and learned quite a few street 'survival' skills that has nothing to do with food/supplies and everything to do with just staying ALIVE! HINT: People Suck and are out for #1 ONLY! DON'T TRUST ANYONE! NO ONE IS YOUR FRIEND! Learn these two principles and you just may survive a SHTF scenario. Learn 'Street Survival' and you might make it. Learn to live with no food/shelter/water for days on end and also, where to find food/shelter/water (think outside the box.) SAFETY is your biggest concern. Learn to be a 'Gray Man/Woman' Most homeless have this down to a science! Google Street Survival Book(s) and get a Hard Copy BEFORE the SHTF! |

A heaping teaspoon if instant coffee poured into a plastic baggie? Plastic baggies might be where it's at! How do you divide any commodity without baggies? I'm off to the store to buy baggies To really preserve it, you should get a vacuum sealer. These days you get can a generic one for $45 and it does the job. I've been vacuuming my supplies lately. Extends the shelf life by years, in some cases, by decades. With coffee, preserving the flavour is the trick, very important. And you can portion it by like, a cup, or 3tbsp, while vacuum sealing it. Just be sure to sign the baggies. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 79549757 Brazil 07/31/2021 10:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Solar charges to charge people's devices. The stuff you refill lighters with. You can refill people's lighters. Salt. Skills. Growing herbs is a great idea, and knowing how to preserve them and use them even better. They kill you, they don't know what you know anymore. Your life is a lot more valuable. Knowing how to use human output for charging or creating electricity will be nice. Soap will be needed. I know how to make it but only with store bought lye. I need to learn the real from scratch way. Walmart bags to crap in are nice to have in a not latrine situation. How to create cordage from things like stinging nettle. Can always find a use for cordage. Really the best thing you can do is learn skills. You don't know if you're going to have to ditch everything. In that situation you need to be able to offer what you are instead of what you are carrying, for value. And if you're a woman, it's even more important to have value do you aren't raped to death. |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 80162448 07/31/2021 10:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Cross batteries and flashlights off your list man. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 48014693 Dynamo flashlights. There is not going to be any power grid in a collapse. Batteries will run out and flashlights will be junk. There are some good fairly cheap dynamo flashlights out there and they will be priceless post collapse. Get some for yourself and a bunch of extras to trade with. Great points. The dynamos are the squeeze power ones? Brilliant. I love the Vodka idea: if it’s hopeless just get drunk af lol! Plus it has medical use to clean wounds. Thanks so much for the input guys and dolls. Myself I think I’m going to begin learning to sharpen everything from saw blades to curved knives. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78818480 A book of matches is dirt cheap (pennies) right now. In a SHTF situation I am offering you fire on demand 20 times over. I'm not going to let that go for nuffinz! Agreed! Heck I’d be willing to trade BICs too. Matches will last though. I’m putting those on my list. Endtimewatchman1 |

It’s quite a bit to think about. |

Prep what you need and keep it to yourself. Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then. If the more I know, the more I know I don’t know, then do I truly know what I know because I know I don’t? You cannot reach a correct conclusion if you begin with an incorrect assumption |
