As I scrolled down the list, a little over halfway through, by response was “so basically, all of them.”

For some, yeah…either their time has passed or they’ve run the chain into the ground (Hooters, Ponderosa…), for others, COVID basically killed the buffet industry, but a lot of that article was basic scaremongering and clickbait. I mean, Taco Bell? Starbucks? Burger King? There is NO danger of these going anywhere. Even if minimum wage wrecks everyone else, many of these will be the first to retrofit into 90% automated.

As for the ‘cook at home,’ ‘good riddance’ crowd….come on. Let's get off our high horses, shall we? We pay for the convenience. It’s an occasional quick meal while on the go. It’s a sometimes treat.

I cook dinner at home 5 or 6 times per week. I like a break from the cooking now and then. Also, when we’re out, I don’t want to have to rush home and prepare a meal, thus ending our day. There is no reason to crap on it just because that’s not what YOU think everyone should have access to.

A new CEO is brought in. Publicly traded companies rapidly expand locations in a race against other chains. Often not much research done to validate the need. This hyper growth causes their stock portfolio to skyrocket. With high stock value and per contractual agreement the board of directors pay him a huge bonus and a lot of stock. He takes the money , cashes out retires.

The company is now overvalued and it's poor controlled growth is causing a profit loss in many locations. New CEO orders budget cuts to make up for losses or close locations.

Totally true in my case. Takes less effort and costs far less to just make the food than to try to get it from a fast food chain.

It was worth it occasionally back when they had good deals and I was in a rush, but since they jacked up the prices it just doesn't work. Drive throughs are always a catastrophe - they always get clogged up by one person who orders everything on the menu.

Many of those have been gone from the Chicago market for years. I used to love Ponderosa...our suburban location closed around 1992.

At least 50% of those aren't even close to collapsing.

Burger King for example is not near collapse.
