Albuquerque has really gone all in on declaring itself the meth capital of the world. They take a lot of pride in it for some reason.
Quoting: Depluribus Unum Gotta be good at something, I guess. Also, they probably get lots and LOTS of that tasty federal money to help ‘fight the scourge.’ Quoting: Larphillips Other than film, Albuquerque's entire economy depends on federal funding from the labs, air force bases and schools ever since they drove away all of the private sector companies. NM did pretty well in oil until Biden gutted that. Quoting: Depluribus Unum I thought Albuquerque had lots of tech companies -- "chip" manufacturers and such or they did in the 90s anyway did they all go to Chyna ? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80669527 There is an Intel plant in Rio Rancho, but it lost the upgrade bid several years ago and is now only manufacturing obsolete technology. It will be gone when the demand for those chips disappears Honeywell and Raytheon bailed on ABQ a few years ago. The city desperately courted Amazon, but that didn't come through. TransCore is pretty much the only private sector tech company left in the city with revenue worth mentioning. Other than that, the Tempur-Pedic and General Mills plants are just about all that's left. Other than that, all of the tech companies survive off of contracts from Sandia, LANL, WSMR or AFRL. All federally funded.
