I've seen a normal amount this year. I've noticed a lack of praying mantis' in my area though. There were swarms of them the past 2 years but this year I haven't seen one. Not even when mowing and weed eating brush.

Black snakes, especially big ones, are often rat snakes. Harmless to humans and great for vermin abatement. I used to have a 10 footer that lived under my driveway. Great snake. I only saw it at night.
