Not exactly true depending on whether you believe the statistics. But the official statistics might be bullshit, so I can't definitely say you're wrong.
For example, Norway had a much stricter lockdown and suffered just 799 deaths, compared to Sweden’s 14,615 deaths. Norway has half the population of Sweden but nearly 20 times fewer deaths. The two countries have similar cultures, ways of living, socializing, health systems, and so on.

I agree, Sweden is doing much better than the United States at handling this pandemic.
