This officer is lucky. If his fellow officers hadn’t arrived when they did, he might not be alive today. This is just more evidence of how police officers risk their lives every day they put on that uniform. It’s also evidence of the toxic anti-cop atmosphere that breeds violent contempt for police officers who are just doing their job and doing it well.

A lot of that would be very reasonable ideas if the primary goal of traffic stops was actually to enforce traffic law.

But the primary reason for most traffic stops is to initiate contact to ID for warrants, etc. It is also a wonderful way to bypass 4th amendment warrant requirements.

Being in a vehicle has somehow over the years morphed into the preferred lazy way to do police work.
