Not long after Richard Branson re-entered Earth’s atmosphere on Sunday, he and other employees of his Virgin Galactic venture boasted that the company would greatly expand opportunities for the general public to travel to space. For the moment, those otherworldly views and feelings of weightlessness will still be held in rarefied air.

A seat on one of the company’s spaceships originally cost $200,000. The company later raised the price to $250,000. It then stopped sales after a crash during a test flight in 2014. When the company resumes sales later this year, the price will probably rise again, said Michael Colglazier, Virgin Galactic’s chief executive.

“We’re here to make space more accessible to all,” Mr. Branson said on Sunday as he was presented with his astronaut wings after his milestone flight.

My final JFK-CDG Concorde flight cost me €7,000. This was two weeks before the end of Air FRance Concorde flights, mid-May 2003.

Everybody was screaming on how expansive it was to fly on Concorde. Something that only the rich could afford. Comparing with what we are seeing now, it was dirt cheap.

Think Three people paid $55 million each to Axiom Space in Houston to fly in SpaceX’s Crew Dragon to the International Space Station as soon as early next year.

I've wondered about why our spaceships look so different from the others....ya know, like the ones in pictures and footage we've seen of craft, even the three I've seen were not the same design, at all.

The only thing I can think is it's because of the difference in powering systems....although it's very CT to think there's some-something "mystical" in there, for better or worse, what with it being shaped like a penis, but I think it's more due to the way it's powered, and the only form that's conducive is what would give the littlest drag, the cylindrical shape.

I never thought they would ever get to where they are right now with their private space travel. I always thought it was more of a publicity stunt.

The fact that they both had the guts to get on those vessels says a lot as well.

Not sure if he is. Orbital flight is a whole different ballgame and he has a very long term goal for SpaceX that probably won't be maintained if he's not around to oversee it. Inspiration4 will be launching 4 space tourists to orbit on a Dragon capsule as soon as September. It will be something to see, the first time a mission composed entirely of civilian amateurs has gone to orbit by themselves. Hopefully I can track them in orbit with my scope at some point.
