People that work for the federal government and drive federal vehicles are known to shop at Walmart. These guys most likely are contracted to FEMA and travel one city to the next. Food on the road can get expensive. If one wants to keep more of the paycheck, instead of eating restaurant or fast food over and over you will stop at the local Walmart and buy stuff to eat before heading to the motel. Microwave food goes farther and is by far cheaper. Proof this is not...swing and a miss...your paranoia is showing...better take the meds Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76509910 Dude was packing heat @ 1:03 / 1:05 ish So ? I know plenty of people who conceal carry on the job especially on the road. You stay at often less than glamorous interstate hotels with match sticks for door locks. If you make it unmolested past the lot lizards, pimps, and crack dealers, you still need protection from the meth heads, homeless beggars and finally the Patel family of desk clerks and sketchy maids. Wouldn't you carry? If I worked for the Dept. of Energy - Probably not. |

Quoting: CopyNinja87 I don't think the Walmart link is relevant here - If this is some place rural, Walmart might be an easy landmark, especially for people not from the area. I think the question that's missing is what the DoE is working on, or looking for, in the middle of nowhere Montana. The most boring explanation that I can find is that the DoE is working with an Indian group, on the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation there, and placed a bunch of solar panels there. At least one of those men look like they're ex-military, but I'm not sure that's actually significant here. A lot of jobs that require traveling and engineering / technical work are going to be filled by ex-military. I think most people being approached by strangers filming them while at work on something like that would probably behave in a similarly protective manner. If I were on an IT contract, and I had men walking over to my work vehicle and looking and filming around it - I suspect I'd be more protective than this. |

Ex-military usually carry if they can, especially if that's a Texan accent there. Again, even if I were driving a Geeksquad van, I'd be sketched out if strangers walked up to me and started filming. If you were on a road trip for work with co-workers, and random people started filming you and asking you questions about your work equipment - Would you really find that normal? |

Quoting: CopyNinja87 Do you have any ex-military in your social circle? I suspect that this is one of those situations where past experience becomes relevant. In the video, I see a technician dealing with strangers walking up to his work equipment and videotaping him. I'm not sure where the encountering law enforcement part comes in? Maybe it's my white privilege speaking, but I don't even consider them beyond making sure that I don't speed through little towns because I don't want to pay for a ticket. Forming a rapport with them has never crossed my mind. |

Walmart does do sub-contract work transporting goods for other companies, you figure they unload at a store so now being empty why not get paid for hauling instead of what they call 'Deadheading". It sure would be interesting to find out what these guys were up |

Let me know when you find a FEMA camp and a Walmart converted into a prison pen...bahawahaha I do recommend a mental health check however, any deeper in the rabbit hole and you will bury yourself The department of energy employs security contractors, so does every federal agency now and post 9/11 the DHS worked with politicians to mandate that all federal agencies keep stockpiles of weapons and ammunition. Even NOAA has them. In this case, ex armed forces, military style vehicles, all armed, logic dictates they're security contractors working for the DOE probably answering to the DHS. I agree there's no evidence they're connected to wal-mart but it's another in a long line of connections between the federal government and wal-mart. As for why, it's obvious. In the event of any emergency, you want to be sure ifrastructure, including large department stores that stockpile essentials and also carry firearms and ammuntion are secure. None of that mean these guys had anything to do with wal-mart but your arrogance on the issue is a bit over the top. It's hardly a secret that big business in America has always maintined a direct relationship with multiple federal agencies because as I said, in the event of an emergency they will be the ones supplying what the nations needs to survive. Everyone from Amazon to Costco has an open relationship with federal government and it's essentially the same in other countries so stow the arrogance and try thinking about what just happened in America this past year. Who provided all the supplies? Who kept the food chain moving? Who supplied the medicines and other essentials? Where did everyting from clothing to pet food come from? Who kept the power on, kept the gas flowing, get the coal moving? Big business. It's completely logical for even the DOE to be working with wal-mart for one reason or another, especially since we've just seen what five years of steady riots followed by a year long "pandemic" looks like. |

One to three companies monopolizing virtually every sector of the US economy and partnering with the government that legislated them the ability to steamroll everyone else out of business. Instead of the government struggling to line you up by themselves the corporations help out with the task. Need an internment camp? No problem! You can partner in using our parking lot (for a taxpayer paid rental fee of course!) Need to track down people to throw in the camp? No problem, we have everyone's info in our preferred shopper database (that you can access with a taxpayer paid fee of course!). As an old school free marketeer this doesn't seem like an ideal form of government to me. |
