After working Irma I knew I'd eventually leave. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80493484 I'll probably retire there, most likely somewhere in Nature Coast (Weeki Wachee, Crystal River, Cedar Key, etc.). I will definitely want 5 acres or so. I live in South Florida...went up to Orlando not long ago... They got a place on 192 called Machine Gun America where you can fire a real live machine gun. Within a mile there's a "Museum of Military History" that got featured on the Travel Channel... Old Town and the Fun Spot still there--Fun Spot's been remodeled with new rides, it looks like... ..drove around--er, crawled around (so much traffic) International Drive...saw the Titanic Museum is still there also... Hardly a mask in sight in Orlando--where I live there's alot more masks being used... One of my favorite FL memories is the smell of orange blossoms in the spring--back in the '80s before the freezes--driving on the Turnpike you could smell them for miles...We used to go to the Seaquarium too... If I could I'd have orange trees--I have a gardenia near my front door--I love it; used to have a night blooming jasmine that would bloom in tune with the summer and winter solistices--Idk why or how, I just remember it being Christmas and that jasmine filled the air--loved it... Thanks for thread, OP--like reading about the FL I used to know... Titanic Museum is really cool. Do they still have the giant ice cube and you see how long you can put your hand on it? That touristy stuff is so fun! St Augustine is cool too. Lots of history there. Quaint little place. Yes, I have an orange tree, lemon, lime, and Ylang Ylang in pots on my deck, love the smells!!! We did shoulder skiing in the Keys, and barefoot, and skimboards, Tarpon Basin. What fun it was! Ya, St Johns River area are still wild, I hear. McKee Jungle Gardens |

Dade and Broward County have the highest insurance rates. And cost of living is high too. And taxes. But don't junk up Middle and Northern Florida with Yankees, that's the last refuge for the old Floridians and manatee. Lake Okeechobee is like a meteor crater or sink hole or something. I don't even think there are any fish in there. heh. They just use the water to make more concrete blocks. wtf? you really don not know florida at all. i caught my biggest fresh water fish ever there. |

Idk, we didn't go in... We went in years ago; they had a DaVinci exhibition back then that I loved so much. ETA the Titanic and DaVinci were in the same building--synchronicity of April 15th of Titanic sinking and DaVinci born (and me too lol) Years ago, we had some orange trees that had to be cut down to canker--to stop the spread they said; also had a mango tree and a starfruit through the years...it's my dream to buy a new place where I can garden and grow trees again...sigh...glad you have a few trees to enjoy!
