We've had our recent fair share here in parts of the UK with some homes being damaged beyond repair and floodings etc but not as severe as there what I've seen... at least not yet... Hopefully they do recover though, yes... |

How is that program working out for NATO. Now they have a mission at home, how many more centuries will they put the solution off? Anonymous Coward User ID: 79660464 United States 07/18/2021 09:29 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Maybe it's because I'm getting older and the sympathy within me is waning, but I don't feel to sad for these folks. If you build a house in/on a flood plain, then expect it to be flooded sometime. It might not be in one year from the day of the purchase/build, and it might not be until 50 years into the future, but the signs are there on the landscape that a flood had happened sometime in the past. Those folks chose to build a house at the bottom of a flood plain next to a steam and their house floated away. Should have taken a basic high school course on flood management and I bet they would have rethought their purchase. I live near a dam. There are folks who live downstream from that dam and their houses are not ten feet above the mean level of the lake. If the dam ever breaks or if there is way too much water entering the lake over an extended period of time, then the folks living downstream will be flooded. Simple fact of physics. The Corps of Engineers will have to release massive amounts of water in order to keep the integrity of the dam. Tough luck for the folks living on the lake below the dam. No sympathy from me for those lake dwellers. They should have considered that before their purchase. And when they go on the television and begin crying about the lose of their house, I'd love to be there to shake my head and give them no support. Maybe I'd give them a hammer and a few nails so they can begin to rebuild their house. Plus, they should have insurance out the ying-yang so they can have their house rebuilt, but I bet there is a clause within the policy that stipulates the policy is void for man made catastrophies. Hehe. |

Hehe. When a dam is built why do the towns downstream not get moved to 'high ground'? Then they are witnesses rather than victims. The land next to rivers is usually the best 'farmland' as well. |

Flood, rebuild, flood, rebuild, etc. They’ve been there for over 10,000 years, but your comment is valid, they build right up to and sometimes over their rivers and streams. On the American side where I grew-up in New Jersey it floods every time their is a big rain storm. It’s been flooding their for millennia. The Native Indians said not to live in the swamp but people did anyway. Now the schtic is to blame global warming / climate change. Totally ignoring the past 300+ years of history.
