No. That is the Orion nebula. I even live streamed the raw acquisition of that photo from the telescope.

Re: ISS Tracking Live Stream 7-16-21

Weather permitting, I'll be tracking ISS tomorrow morning at about 5:40 AM eastern time, 9:40 UT. I'll be using my 8" Meade LX200 telescope and Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K, tracking the station using my SatTraker software:

I'll post an update on the weather when I wake up.

Well, I slept through the live tracking but the vid is great!
Nice job, Mutt.
Didn't use a wedge, huh?
A lot of that very mysterious field rotation in evidence...
(snicker)

Have fun.

I was surprised at first to see the station appeared to be flying the wrong way today, actually. Dragon should be on the "front" of the station, not the trailing end, but due to high beta angle they actually yawed the space station around a few days ago. The field rotation in the footage actually makes it easier to perceive how the station is rising, transiting, and then setting. The processed, stacked and stabilized 4K footage is stunning, I can't wait to upload it.

I can't believe I used to be such an ignorant asshole about this shit. It's so fascinating that you can actually track and film the ISS. I don't even know how I used to call this "bullshit." I was so deluded to believe what I wanted to believe that I ignored such beautiful proof that there is a fucking metal tube flying around this glorious planet. Its almost liberating.

Anyhow, thanks, brother. I know its a hobby but I still appreciate the time and effort that you put into this just to share it with a bunch of degenerates online. Most of whom won't ever show their gratitude.

Kick ass, my man!

Hmmm, I've just been reading up on how nebula are formed. I know they can be formed differently, but it seems as though I've read conflicting info.

Are they formed because in a stars evolution, they have "exploded" or nova-ed, or is that the gases form the star?

I suppose, I'm just trying to look at some possibilities, to try to come to some kind of conclusion I'm looking into.

Thank you, again...flower

I'm just impressed you can focus on the unstabilized real-time image. Practice makes really good and it shows you've a lot of practice (experience) with that scope.
You've had that forever, haven't you?
Quite a bargain if you amortize it over the decade(s) you've had it.
.
Will you be posting the processed vid here or on you channel?

Have fun.

Yup, it takes a lot of practice to focus on it without stabilization. Eventually I plan to write a program to do realtime stabilization off the HDMI capture coming from the camera, basically just using the same code I use now for post-processing, but sped up to work in realtime. I need to dig in deeper to GPU acceleration and see if I can leverage that properly. It would make the whole process a lot easier and make the live streams more enjoyable too.

I've had this scope for 17 years now, which is pretty crazy. Hopefully I can keep it running for at least another decade. I'll post the processed video in a new thread when it's ready. I'm doing some A/B testing on whether to release a rolling stack version or an unstacked version of the video. You'd think stacked would be superior in every way, but it can give blurry results from rolling shutter artifacts distorting the shape of ISS slightly between frames. If it gets too close to the zenith, field rotation becomes non-negligible even over just a few frames, but at 57 degrees this morning's pass wasn't too bad.

Stabilized, stacked and sped up you can really perceive the 3D shape of the station.

Yeah sorry, I had to speed it up even more than I really wanted to in order to get it to fit within the file size limit. Still, I think it is a really cool little clip. Definitely going to trigger some flatties.
