Seems more like someone wanted funding for a more permanent monument/mural/etc and this was a way to get $$/attention.

Brick is NOT conductive therefore it is quite impossible for lightning to Strike a brick wall in this fashion.

Any electrician can tell you this.

The lightning would have struck the metal next to the mural which is GROUNDED before it ever struck the brick.

Common sense tells you that this was an act of man, whether it be a group of racists who did not like the mural or a group of people who wanted a "more permanent mural" as the poster above proposed.

YES, Air is indeed conductive. When the electric field is high enough, the air partially ionizes, at which point there are free electrons to carry current and the air becomes, essentially, conductive.

YES wood can be a conductor just like a human body can be a conductor. Wood alone does not have much ability to conduct electricity. However, when the wood is wet, then its conductivity increases. Worse than that, the salt and mineral laden water is conductive. So, while the wood itself might not be conductive, the properties inherent in the wood make it conductive and a nice path for the electricity to travel into the ground.

While I accept your declaration that rainwater can be conductive, it is FAR FROM A REASONABLE EXPLANATION AS THE RAINWATER IS EVERYWHERE NOT JUST ON THE MURAL.

Not too mention there are SEVERAL METAL OBJECTS IN CLOSE PROXIMITY.

Anyone who has graduated GRADE SCHOOL knows that electricity takes the path of least resistance. A brick wall is NOT CONDUCTIVE AND IS NOT PROPERLY GROUNDED, but the metal next to the brick wall IS conductive and properly grounded.

Lightning would have certainly struck the metal before the brick wall.

The fire department only reported what the witnesses reported. A forensic analysis by a competent and knowledgeable person was not performed and EVEN THE MAYOR SAID HE WAS NOT SURE IF IT WAS VANDALISM OR ACTUALLY LIGHTNING AT THIS POINT.

It is not hard to envision the authorities attributing this to an act of nature rather then admitting the truth that it was vandalized and having a RIOT or some type of CIVIL UNREST ensue shortly thereafter as a result.

Civil Order is of the utmost importance in volatile situations like this one.

Please go back to school and educate yourself on the properties of electricity.
