What do you mean when you say "my back went out on me"?

Can't lift any weight? Pain all the time? Paralyzed?

Do isometrics on your abdominal muscles. You can do that laying in bed or just sitting at the computer. You need a strong core to take the stress of your back muscles, which are being over taxed and are spasming and pulling on your vertebrae. Also, hanging off a tree limb or bar will automatically align the spine using gravity and your lower body weight.

POLL: HELP! My back went out a few weeks ago - do I keep going to the chiropractor, or stop seeing him and do exercises?

This poll may help anyone down the road whose back goes out.

I was lifting some heavier things, probably incorrectly about 2.5 weeks ago, and the next day my back went out when tying my shoes.

I went to the chiropractor and believe he helped the first time I saw him or maybe two, but after that it seems seeing him 3 times a week for a few months is over the top and maybe even detrimental.

Anyone have any advice on getting a functional back, after the back goes out?

Re: POLL: HELP! My back went out a few weeks ago - do I keep going to the chiropractor, or stop seeing him and do exercises?
Ok this might sound nutty and odd but it works. It's also safe.

Go to Walmart or order online a 6 inch plasma globe. It's marketed as a fun device, you plug it in, turn it on, and it makes plasma inside which looks like lightning strikes.

Place the outside of the globe against the painful area on your back. It might be a bit hard to maneuver as even simply putting an arm in back can hurt.

But place the thing maybe between the back of a chair or sofa and your back. Have it on, and keep it there around 4 minutes. Do this several times a day, 3 to 5 if you can stand it. It just needs to be against the skin not pressing in hard or anything.

This shortens the healing/pain time from like 3 weeks to 4 or 5 days at the longest.

They are good for burns too. If you burn yourself (simple burn) place against plasma globe for 5 minutes, 30 minutes later it will be like nothing happened. They use it at burn clinics in Germany.

This is cold plasma, rather than blood plasma, a completely different thing.

Cold plasma is said by some to be the 4th state of matter after solid, liquid, gas...then plasma.

It's like God's perfect light and corrects what it comes into contact with.

It will be the future of medical technology and have many applications.

Re: POLL: HELP! My back went out a few weeks ago - do I keep going to the chiropractor, or stop seeing him and do exercises?
I don't post here so that's why I'm an AC and don't have an account, however, I was compelled to reply because I also deal with significant back pain. Had it for 5 or more years, hard to tell. Many motorcycle accidents along the way (sportbikes), which comes with the territory OR you're doing it wrong 😋.

Enough about that. I've seen, heard, and done damn near everything in attempt to correct my back pain. I understand now, this is not possible. One thing I haven't tried yet, although I am very close to purchasing, is one of those inversion tables or the hang from the ceiling type deal. Both are inconvenient one way or another, and the main reason why I haven't purchased one is because of three to five things I currently do. I'll share those with you and anyone else who's curious. Be advised, I didn't read anything others have said yet.

1) kratom daily. I take 2 tablespoons in the morning, 2 mid day, and 2 more at night. The various brands and whatever but I'd highly recommend the green vein in powder form mixed with hot water. This keeps the pain away entirely without normal pain killer medication adverse effects.

2) stretches. In the shower, also daily, with your one shoulder against the wall (facing showerhead), lift same arm so it is horizontal with the wall and your body is like an "L" shape. Use the same side leg as support. Lift the opposing leg to a 90 degree angle bringing it up like a foot or so off the ground. Alternate sides, doing about 5-10 reps per side. This should be felt in your lower back right above your rear end and rear pelvis. Felt as in, this is where the fulcrum is.

3) yoga. Might sound silly or hippie dippy, but I promise you, once a week handful of positions that incorporate the back has done winders for me. #NOHOMO 😂

4) motrin. If I pick up something the wrong way, I know it immediately. When I incur my back pain and need immediate relief without the prescription, this is my go-to. Motrin the brand gel capsules, not the orange pills with a crap ton of crap in them. Motrin only used once or so a month.

5) prednisone. My last resort and if I am unable to walk, stand, or operate like a normal human being and not the hunchback of Notre Dame. When and if I do something stupid, game over. Email the doc for a prednisone script. I avoid the normal "pain killer" types like opioids as I need to remain razor sharp 15-16 hours a day. Back to kratom, doesn't dull you and I am unable to explain it's effect but it's nothing like anything I've come across. You're not high like marijuana and there's no dulling like taken the edge off from a drink or two.

If you get an inversion table, please let us know how it goes for you. I've heard excellent things from bluecollar guys with bad backs. Lastly, if not previously mentioned, I suffer from some fucked discs in my lower back and occasionally the neck area. Best of luck to you, bro!

Re: POLL: HELP! My back went out a few weeks ago - do I keep going to the chiropractor, or stop seeing him and do exercises?
I have been there and done that. Ask your doctor for a tans unit. I will provide electrical stimulation. It is covered by most medical insurances. Still by itself it will not do too much for the long haul.

The best thing you can do for yourself is to stretch often, and exercise to to lose weight and get more fit. Most of your back pain is actually coming because you had to over compensate for your abnormal muscles. It won't matter how much you get a pop here and there. The only way to solve the problem is to gain more flexibility and strengthen your muscles.
Take a warm bath with Epson sault daily. Avoid lavender and chamomile if you are man. Those will interfere with your insulin production and endocrine system over all. It great for women though. If you can join Planet Fitness they offer
warm water infused table massage is great as well. They have this whole body, standing up vibrating platform thing too that is great. Just make sure you sing up for black card. Go at least 3 of four times per week.

Taking magnesium , potassium, and calcium will help the process along. Take about every other day and rotate it with iron and other supplements like fish oil and vitamin Da a multivitamin. If you are anemic, that too will lock up your muscles more often.

If you drink cut back or quite. Cut back on any food that make you bloat. Take Beano. Frequent bloating can put stress on your back as well, because it is over stretching your abdomen muscles. It will cause you are well to adapt poor posture. Anyways, good luck. It is just going to take long time and you are going to have to be tenacious and taking care of yourself.
 Quoting: My Fear

Wow! I had about 12 drops of lavender essential oil to my bath every time I take a hot bath with epsom salts. So that's a bad idea?
 Quoting: Butch DeFeo

For men ... Yes. The problem is
lavender oil in products such as shampoo, soap and skin lotion, may lead to enlarged breast tissue in boys/ men. A pediatric endocrinologist at the University of Colorado at Denver first suspected a link between lavender oil use and gynecomastia after diagnosing three young males with the condition. And of course boobs and back problems, for muscles you don't have to support breast would be a problem. LOL!

For women lavender helps to balance their insulin levels. However for men it can drop their insulin levels dramatically, because they don't have the estrogen's needed to balance it.
 Quoting: My Fear

I am so glad that you shared this information. I study herbs and essential oils and never heard this. A friend of mine is Type 1 diabetic and likes to use lavender and mint on his feet. HE is heavier, so hard to tell if there was an effect, but he definitely needs to know this.
 Quoting: Happy in Nature

Absolutely. My sons diabetic glandular doctor told us as well. No lavender for men.. period.

A chiropractor over corrected me one time and I went to PT from then on. You only have to go so many weeks and then they give you an at home exercise routine. You might need to take it easy a couple of days but definitely make a PT appt. The chiropractor will have you coming in for years. Also try heat and an exercises and calming techniques.

OP, go see an orthopedic surgeon, and explain your problems to them. Have them order an MRI of your back to see what is going on. Then decide what you're going to do. A chiropractor doesn’t know enough of what's going on. A lot of nerves branch out from your spine, and if they get pinched, even walking may become a challenge.

No pain meds get rid of my back pain, so I don't take any. After many years of chiropractic visits, I finally had an MRI done of my back. I have spinal stenosis, and there's no cure for it. Living on a farm and taking care of horses keeps me from locking up, which is what would happen if I layed down to relieve the constant pain. Each step is now a concentrated effort. I have weakness and loss of sensation. My pain is from a narrowing of the inside of my spine. I'm slower to get around than I used to be, and life goes a bit slower than it used to.

Re: POLL: HELP! My back went out a few weeks ago - do I keep going to the chiropractor, or stop seeing him and do exercises?
HOW I HEALED MY BACK..

2018, was helping my mom move out of her apt; she had a small box of books...no more than 3 lbs, i went down, pick it up and suddenly, had what i can only describe as a whip going down my spine; my feet gave out, and fell on my knees.

Let me tell you, at that moment i thougth i had gone paraplegic. Slowly i felt strong enough to get up and it was painful as hell. For the first time in my life i understood when people say, i would rather be dead than go through this---just taking a dump was so painful that i was on a liquid diet...

Anyway, was so lucky that my friend had a similar injury so he sent me to this Ukrainian physical therapist. Usually they want a doctor recommendation, referral, x-rays, etc, but this lady saw me after hours as my pain was so great and i just felt incapacitated.

Sbe gave me this painful lower back massage and gave me a series of exercises to do. After her massage, i could actually walk almost normal again and based on her PT assessment, she said i was about 30% mobile. I couldn't twist my body, i couldn't do many things; she said, if i were to do my exercises daily for 6 months, i could improve to 80-90%.

I had to go on bedrest for a week, so that sucked, but my friend gave me books by joe dispenza, becoming supernatural, you're the placebo.

I was fascinated by the concept that mentally we could heal ourselves. So while on bedrest, i would mentally exercise my back, see it healthy, and went as far as visualing a laser light fixing it and restoring it back to new.

About 2 months into this ordeal, i felt like i was almost back to normal, so when i went to the therapist, she did all her tests, and i was back to 90% mobility. She was amazed by my progress, so i honestly feel that my mental exercises, as long as my physical exercises, helped me alot.

My pain went away, and within 3 months i was back to normal. I would say, read that Dispenza book, and go see a good physical therapist. F the chiropractor!

Sorry to hear this OP.

I understand well.
My back got injured via car accident and that happens to me all the time now.
It sucks bad and makes it really hard to use your hands.

The chiropractor cracked my back so hard I asked “Am I okay?”
He said “Are you?”
He was worried.
I kept going to the chiropractor but I think it made things worse.

If the chiropractor is helping then keep going.
I know some get a lot of relief from the chiropractor.

My experience was that it made things worse all in all,

Hope you feel better soon.
I will pray for you.

Just let it heal, usually 6 weeks.

If you have numbness in your calf or pain and numbness in your quads etc. then you most likely have a herniated disc. I’ve been dealing with this and had to go in and get my first shot about a week ago. It’s remarkable cause I learned that over 50% of the people in America have herniated disc‘s and don’t know it.
