here is another thing to remember most back pain is in the brain.

ie it's imaginary. which is why it feels so weird and not like real pain from an immediate injury.

the more you focus on and are afraid of the pain, the more it will consume you.

I recently watched an old 20/20 video about this and ive tried to keep ky mind open to this concept and it hasnt exactly worked, but it does keep you reminded to not tense up your back and hips and honestly has helped a bit

But there is zero way its ALL psychological. Thats what people that have never had back pain would say lol

Most back pain is caused by your disc being out of align the
reason it's a different hurt is because the nerves in your back
run down a channel in the disc and they could be touching one of
the disc and hurts a lot I recommend doing stretching exercises in
the morning if you can't do it standing up lay in bed and do it
by pulling your legs to your chest and extending your legs. as far
as
a chiropractor when it starts to hurt quick using him might want
go to regular doctor

Re: POLL: HELP! My back went out a few weeks ago - do I keep going to the chiropractor, or stop seeing him and do exercises?
I can tell you anything others havent already said here

I first pulled a muscle or whatever in my back late 2019, went to the chiro one time and she didnt do much of anything, but whatever she did, by the time i got home 5 mins later i couldnt even get out of my car or walk and was down like that for 4 days.

Finally got a bit better through stretching. I dont like taking pills or any meds.

But its come back a couple times since, most recently around the first of march, and the shit is still bothering me. Its not bad, but just makes it feel like i have to be very careful cause one wrong move will send it back to how it was.

I dont know what the official "cure" is or if there even is one, but hip stretching with a foam roller, hip thrusts/ab crunches seem to help mine the most since i dont believe mine is a vertebrae problem, its more muscle/sciatica ,
 Quoting: 1-2-Follow

keep at it. click bones often, loosen, stretch, break, tear and build muscles.

it will get better in time, trust me.

indeed im not saying it zero psychological, it's just not pain as in the traditional sense. it's like something is touching the side of a nerve and not exactly activating it by its endpoint, if that makes sense.

Re: POLL: HELP! My back went out a few weeks ago - do I keep going to the chiropractor, or stop seeing him and do exercises?
You need to do a couple things.

1) Stop the muscle spasm. - Naproxin for the inflammation, a muscle relaxer like cyclobenzaprine, magnesium and Potassium.

2) Mobilize each joint of the back to allow nourishing, healing and lubricating synovial joint fluid into the joint spaces.
- Inversion table or inversion chair (opens the joint spaces)
- If you can find a talented Asian back walker, they are amazing.
- Lie on back with a foam roller and roll out the entire spine. Might not be able to do this right away.
- Practice Tai Chi. The forms will open your spinal spaces by shifting your weight and body position.
- Eat some vegetables every day as well as a bowl of oatmeal. helps thin the synovial fluid as well as reduce inflammation.

- boil a whole chicken for 3 hours and consume the broth (skim some of the fat off the top)(Helps rebuild cartilage tissue). Reduce wheat intake until your are better.

Good luck.

If you are in agony and just need something quick, lie on your back on a cool cement floor with knees elevated on a chair. Just lie there and relax a while. Maybe some gentle head turning side to side.

And inflatable exercise ball can also be handy to start getting mobilization back if you have one handy.

Re: POLL: HELP! My back went out a few weeks ago - do I keep going to the chiropractor, or stop seeing him and do exercises?
Ok this might sound nutty and odd but it works. It's also safe.

Go to Walmart or order online a 6 inch plasma globe. It's marketed as a fun device, you plug it in, turn it on, and it makes plasma inside which looks like lightning strikes.

Place the outside of the globe against the painful area on your back. It might be a bit hard to maneuver as even simply putting an arm in back can hurt.

But place the thing maybe between the back of a chair or sofa and your back. Have it on, and keep it there around 4 minutes. Do this several times a day, 3 to 5 if you can stand it. It just needs to be against the skin not pressing in hard or anything.

This shortens the healing/pain time from like 3 weeks to 4 or 5 days at the longest.

They are good for burns too. If you burn yourself (simple burn) place against plasma globe for 5 minutes, 30 minutes later it will be like nothing happened. They use it at burn clinics in Germany.

This is cold plasma, rather than blood plasma, a completely different thing.

Cold plasma is said by some to be the 4th state of matter after solid, liquid, gas...then plasma.

It's like God's perfect light and corrects what it comes into contact with.

It will be the future of medical technology and have many applications.

POLL: HELP! My back went out a few weeks ago - do I keep going to the chiropractor, or stop seeing him and do exercises?

This poll may help anyone down the road whose back goes out.

I was lifting some heavier things, probably incorrectly about 2.5 weeks ago, and the next day my back went out when tying my shoes.

I went to the chiropractor and believe he helped the first time I saw him or maybe two, but after that it seems seeing him 3 times a week for a few months is over the top and maybe even detrimental.

Anyone have any advice on getting a functional back, after the back goes out?

Oh, Boy.. This is just a Symptom.. You do have a lot to learn.. about your body.

Youtube is one of the best sources you can find to watch and learn exercises ... yes some like yoga.. to work your lower back.

Soak in hot tub with 2+ cups of epsom salts.. (Magnesium - a mineral )
Buy Jarrow Formula's MSM-Sulfur... take 1-2 tsp @ 1-2 times a day.. to detox cells and reduce pain. It is a mineral.

You are tight and back spasms cut off circulation.. causing inflammation.

Take up yoga ..

I am sure you have numerous other nutritional deficiencies and medical problems in the works.. you better start changing you diet and focus on learning about nutrition and the chemistry of the body..

Turn off your TV.. and start researching.. or you are facing a poor future with your health.

Another subject is that arthritis can be caused by many things.

I suffered very painful feet and knees most of my life and docs all said it was wear-and-tear osteo-arthritis. At 65 I could barely walk and had to have joint replacement of my knee.

My son took me to his rheumatologist and he ordered blood tests which included uric acid levels. It was sky high and surprised even the doc who really threw in that uric acid test just to be thorough.

I produced too much uric acid which settles in the joints and causes very painful swelling in the joints (also called gout). The excessive uric acid crystals act like sandpaper and literally grind away the cartilage of the joints.

The doc prescribed allopurinal. Complete relief.

There may be a few chiropractors out there that are good enough to help, but most are pretty useless (and want you to pay them money every week for the rest of their lives). :)

Far better off to find a good asian back walker - masseuse.
If you find a good one, a 1 hour massage will eliminate all back spasm and pain. It is hard to find a good one however.

Re: POLL: HELP! My back went out a few weeks ago - do I keep going to the chiropractor, or stop seeing him and do exercises?
Tough old bastard here again. I didn't realize it was your SI joint, Sacro Iliac and lower most vertebra, so I'll add some more. All I said previously still applies.
This is a unique pair of joints. They sort of slide as you move. Think one hand's fingers atop the other. And there is a lot of connective tissue involved. (I have a specimen skeleton to reference my internal visualization off of and that joint has a lot of attachment places.)There is no other joint in the skeleton like it.
Having your SI joint out of alignment makes one leg longer than the other.
There are a slew of utube videos about self adjustment, including this one joint pair.
Check out Houston Chiro's "ring dinger", he's the man. There are several others, and I don't disagree with any of them.
In hatha yoga the 'pigeon pose' is a great one for just this joint and it's pretty easy even if you're in a lot of pain. Just use a bunch of books to sit upon, say six inches tall stack.
You ought not self adjust too many times in a day. Also, after the joint has been "popped" this is the sound of the formation of nitrogen bubbles in the joint and until these reabsorb into the blood the joint is considered unstable, so give it a rest for at least a few minutes.
And, at the risk of being too verbose, I'll add beware of chiropractors who miss a release, because they're talking or expect you to resist manipulation as in previous visits, and they can do a lot of damage by thrusting an already adjusted joint. I got a permanent damage from one such and have never gone to another since. Tough old so and so, eh? Hoping this helps you and others. Gotcher back...

Grab a Pilates Reformer from thrift if you see one. It will make your abs strong, but more importantly, stretch your backbone. I got 3/4" taller with regular use. You can learn floor pilates, too, for free, from internet vids. Pilates was developed for those with injuries to begin with.

Stretches are VERY valuable for recuperation - vids online; and use those legs when picking things up, while keeping abs tight so back doesn't take all the strain.

i went to a christian chiropractor and he was a good chiropractor i could tell he was conflicted whether to milk me for money or just tell me what the cure was, he just told me the exercises to do and they actually worked

depends on what you mean by 'my back went out' , you mean it locks up on a spasm? you can undo cramps fairly easily

i know if i lose weight ,then it's the slight change in posture that creates the mind blowing pain/cramps, there's a stretching machine at the LA fitness that cures it, that and the back exercises but watch out, the back exercises CAN make it worse if you do the wrong ones.

Get the inflammation under control with twice daily Aleve....get lots of rest....cut out nicotine if an issue...if it’s a herniated disc, it can heal naturally but nicotine inhibits the bodily’s ability adisolve the herniation. Chiropractor, only I f it makes flu feel good but don’t buy other BS.

Whatever you do, add boron to your diet.

Hmmmmm Thanks
 Quoting: Butch DeFeo

After 40, we need more boron. The soil is depleted from commercial farming, so it can be hard to get enough from vegetables from the supermarket..

I use one teaspoon of boric acid dissolved in a liter of hot water. I add peppermint oil to mask the taste. One tablespoon of the mixture a day provides 3 mg of boron. A liter in the refrigerator will provide three months of boron for pennies. Much better than the supplement IMHO.

A friend told me about this years ago. My job entailed moving heavy boxes of books all the time. It was a regular with my chiropractor (who is not a jerk the body once or twice kind of doctor) and massage therapist. After 60 days, my back was fine.

There is also another kind of therapy called needling. It involves little pricks along the muscle to release the lactic acid and other toxins. It hurts, but it works if it is a muscle and not a disc.

Finally, try to find a Pilates Reformer that someone mentioned further in this thread. Three times a week and in eight weeks your body will be in alignment and stronger.

Sending healing vibes.
