Quoting: JF Priest Ice for the first 72 hours (Off and on) I have been through this numerous times. I agree with getting a Tens Unit and Inversion table. (I like my "Teeter"). Does your Chiropractor do the Ultrasound, Massage, adjustment, then Pads or stim routine?? (If not find one that does) Green Roads CBD 150 Mg Cooling Roll on works wonders. (Don't pay more than $18.99 though) Once the pain is gone Heat is your friend. Talk to your chiropractor or a Physical therapist about stretches and exercises to do to build you back up. (There are good YouTube vids about this also) You should consider a working routine to do for the rest of your life. Do you Run?? If so quit and do a low impact workout instead. Are you Fat?? If so time to get into shape or risk reoccurrence.. If you have room find a good used Bowflex and start using it routinely. Pain killers and muscle relaxers can be used for the first week to help with the acute pain. (Good luck getting good stuff in todays anti painkiller climate) Make sure the pain has subsided before you start the rehab..You don't want a Flair up. There was no POP. It was just a lighting bolt of pain in that spot. sometimes I hear an audible pop when my back goes out. Just like I can hear a Pop when a Chiropractor puts it back in place. Also heard a Pop when I tore ligaments in my ankle about 5 weeks ago..But that is another story. I stand by everything I posted above. Back from l4 to s1 is fused in a cage system with multiple titanium bars screws etc. I went to chiro only a handful of times and they always made me worse. I have issues in my l3 completely pulling out of the socket, my waist legs go numb when this happens and pain level 9 out of ten. The mri looks nasty when this happens like worst cast scoliosis. When my oldest daughter was 4, she started getting ear infections after we moved to FL. Pediatrician wanted to remove adenoids and put in tubes. I was like, NOPE. Took my my chances on a chiro, 5-6 visits and no more ear infections. Same thing happened with my youngest a couple years later. Sought out the same chiro. No surgery needed. Take it as you will. I believe in “first do no harm” and it worked with my kids. Maybe find a new chiro if you aren’t sure about this one? No reason not to do exercises though, right? At least stretches or things to therapeutically help. |

My back went out a few weeks ago - do I keep going to the chiropractor, or stop seeing him and do exercises? Take some muscle relaxers and go for a walk. When your back goes out 99 times out of 100 it's because of a tight muscle pulling the back out of place. If your chiropractor is just lining your spine back up without fixing the underlying cause he's actually causing more damage because you spine will pop back out of place. Seriously muscle relaxer and a 30 minute walk at a brisk pace. Thank me later. |

I had a chiro in a small plain office who told me to come back as necessary. Another chiro in a fancy (posh) office who tried to get me to sign a long term (and expensive) contract. My back has gone out 3 times in 20 years. Immobilized the first day, but with TEN's and heat... can function the next day with a good amount of pain and restricted motion. Takes about 3 weeks to get back to 100% Good luck! |

Refrigerator fell on me at a job once and I caught it and kept it from crushing me, and paid for it with three weeks in bed on pain pills and a neck injury that still happens from time to time. Also have genetically bad lower back and I have to sleep on a hard floor or else I deal with massive pain daily. Ill tell you what has been a miracle for me. Turmeric. I tried it two years ago. Two pills a day helped a bit but not totally. I take three pills twice a day and my back is basically normal again. Best anti inflammatory I have ever tried. Seriously changed my life. My back went out a few weeks ago - do I keep going to the chiropractor, or stop seeing him and do exercises? my story might help you. about 20 or so years ago, i "broke" my cervical and lumbar in a snowboarding mishap. at the time i was immobilized in both areas. i wasn't a fan of hospitals/doctors at all. however i checked into a&e, they did some scans and revealed a few problems, fractures, slip discs etc etc. they wanted to do surgery. i refused. they said there was nothing else they could do apart from pain meds. which i wasn't a fan of either, so hardly used and in the end didn't use at all. not touched a pain killer/anti inflammatory since. the injuries began to heal and i compensated for them in various ways. twisting my body, neck and putting uneven pressure on the hips etc. i put up with this for a couple of years without treatment at all. doing nothing but restricting my movement and trying my best to get about and deal with it. then, my parents asked me if i would like to go to the chiropractor, since they had been seeing them for their injury / old age problems. this was new to me. I had not heard of them before this. so i agreed to go, since they were offering to pay for it, i had nothing to lose. i then went on to a number of visits to the chiropractor, at first it was intense. was like i had done a marathon or the longest gym session ever. i felt on fire all over. the muscles were getting used to the skeltons 'new' positions again. after several visits, my old pains were entirely gone and a lot went on the first visit anyway. my back and posture became more correct and i walked and felt like a new person every visit. after a while maybe 12 or so visits. which were becoming a month apart by now. i was finding they were milking it a bit. only doing a little bit at a time. so, i decided to put some effort into clicking my own back. arms. neck etc. each time it provided instant relief. after time i learnt new ways and became my own chiropractor. i basically stretched all my muscles and the joints , everything daily, multiple times a day. clicking whatever i could. the way i understand it, if you don't use it, it fuses. you need to break the joins, if you want the range of motion again. after a while, i had mastered many ways to click. then eventually certain areas started to refuse to click. so i kept on at the other areas, which i could click to provide minor comfort each time. the next 5 or so years i did this, managed to get by, but some days were agony. i did about 8 more visit to a different chiropractor, same routine, neck side, back, hips. i learnt to do a few more of my own after studying their technique a bit more with the visits and continued to stretch as much as i could i many directions and push where i could to get a click and use vertical edges to align the points on the spine in my back. so it's, 20 years later now and i still click occasionally. do a bit of normal exercise. i've not seen a chiropractor since the second one. generally no back pain and correct posture. no medical conditions otherwise. and in summary, they definitely helped me, without them i would probably be a cripple by now. i also avoided unnecessary debilitating surgery and don't think i refused surgery lightly, i was in much pain, but i had no faith in the medical establishment at the time, i was, as i am now a conspiracy theorist.. true story. |

Anyone have any advice on getting a functional back, after the back goes out? :DOOMTOTAL: :CATAFFE: :REDPB: Acupuncture, cbd, and traction techniques. Regarding traction, don’t hang upside down. Use a pull-upbar and hang by your hands. If you can’t hold yourself up for long, use wrist straps. When you get better at it, start holding medicine balls between your knees for added weight. If you can only do one out of the three steps I have detailed for you, opt for the traction. Back in 2007, I had a horrible accident and destroyed my two lower discs in my back. It went from herniation, to separation, to full blown rupture. I went through every step that the doctors gave me and it proved to be no good for my condition. I tried yoga, chiropractors, medicine, and just about everything that you can think of. As far as medicine CBD is the only thing actually targets my pain. Acupuncture, although it takes a little time for it to start showing benefits, works. Then I started working with traction. I tried just about every device and every technique that I could until I finally had to start developing my own. What I explain for you to do works give it a try. Good luck. |

Anyone have any advice on getting a functional back, after the back goes out? Nurse it back to health with plenty of rest and focus on straight spinal posture when sleeping side or back. Do not overextend, especially until it heals. For laces use the sit-in-a-chair and rest foot that needs to be tied on front thigh, then same for the other. Or from standing put your foot up on a chair to tie, so you don't need to over-extend. Watch out for sneezes, they can throw out your back instantly. Never turn only the top half of your body, like if your doing something and look to the side. Always have your feet pointed towards where your head is facing. When lifting, always lift squarely, both hands under the load. Never one hand high, one hand low. Spine works much better on vertical lifts, doesn't like sideways pressure. Do a couple full cat-style stretches when you wake up, a couple when you go to bed. Really helps. This list is just damage control methods for bad back. Embrace the cognitive dissonance. |
