NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded the extreme ultraviolet flash: Quoting: Simple27 [imgur] [link to imgur.com (secure)] A pulse of X-rays briefly ionized the top of Earth's atmosphere, causing a shortwave radio blackout over the Atlantic Ocean. Mariners, aviators, and amateur radio operators may have noticed unusual propagation effects below 30 MHz just after 1429 UT. [imgur] [link to imgur.com (secure)] The source of this flare is an un-numbered sunspot now growing near the sun's northwestern limb. Yesterday it did not even exist, highlighting the unpredictability of solar activity. More flares may be in the offing, so stay tuned. [link to www.spaceweather.com (secure)] WOW WOW WOW!!! Oh whoa, last time we had a storm in the Gulf too. Irma. :O 'Yesterday it(the region) did not even exist' |

Quoting: Kagnimir 79749445 The long solar thread is a good place to ask questions but I'm pretty sure the flaring is actually a good* thing, it powers our magnetosphere. Idk if it's a mixture of the flares and back in the day, reading that thread, with the sun watchers and then the sun turned so quiet these past 10 years... But the flares are so exciting. And we're so lucky, to be able to monitor them at a fairly 'real time'!? *good actually showed as god, idk if it was my fingers or ai, kind of funny. |
