Just saw this, I am a programmer, and I would be interested in what you are talking about. Although I think the statement, 'there are problems' is a bit of a stretch.

I don't have a PM, so I can't talk that way. Just here to have fun and blow off some steam.

My focus is on python and learning. Just FYI. Internet infrastructure has always had a slap-dash feel to me and I just can't stand it.

Building something that can circumvent ISP would be critical. Then the next step is something that automatically cracks down on bad actors.

I have never thought about completely subverting the ISP. I knew some people that had done things similar, but never thought about a large scale implementation. Can't Stop the Signal Mal.

It needs to be simple and elegant. A fun design.

Re: Let's decentralize the internet
I've never stopped working on P2P related stuff to help decentralize communication on the internet.

One of the latest things I've worked on is creating a mesh of p2p tracker servers so decentralized apps no longer need to depend on the few overloaded public tracker servers.

I'm trying to work out how to make servers participating in the swarm of trackers more secure for individual applications, but still allow them to share other trackers between each other.

Ideally, it would be a giant globally interconnected mesh of P2P tracker servers that can be used by whatever P2P app needs it...

Much more work to be done.

It's fun to work on, but I need a collaborator or two... Ironically, building P2P technologies happens to be a very isolating endeavor. Probably because it isn't easy at all.

The minute you stated web aps and trackers, I got a laugh. I block all trackers all the time. You are not going to find much of a crowd out there with the compute/storage power to do any good. On a single web page, I get one hell of a lot of traffic, combine that with a lot of other users and it is a burden.
Great idea, just not gonna work.

There are already enthusiasts working on systems just like you propose!

One is AMPRNet, which is basically "Internet over HAM radio". It is slow, but is deployed and working in the real world.
Check it out here: [link to www.ampr.org (secure)]

Another big project is LocaMesh, which is a decentralized "meshnet" for creating a regional internet (that can also cross over and connect to the big internet at certain hubs). This is a real exciting & promising project:

Yes, it is clear that the illegitimate "authorities" will pass laws to make their crimes & oppressive acts legal.

We cannot trust any entity that is basically controlled by government (e.g. larger telecom companies).

We need to cut the illegitimate governments out of the equation whenever & wherever possible.

I'm working on similar stuff, but a bit more lofty goals (I've seen your posts before). Sorry, I'm not going to talk through an account right now, I have no idea who you are in real life (I understand the same is true in reverse).

If there is something public you can point to (public repos with your work, or linkedin profile or something), then I can try to reach out via some channel.

Also, what tech stacks? I'll be blunt, just asking for generic programmers with no filtering for tech or experience makes me think this is kind of an amateur project and maybe not the most likely to be successful, but I don't want to pre-judge.

My offer is implicit in my joining the conversation, as I even provide some general info about my skills.

Here let me be more blunt. I am interested in helping, but I don't know if I can help much, because the internet isn't my personal field of interest. I can probably help if you are looking for something to subvert the ISP, but I have never thought about doing that before I read through your post.

It's an interesting concept, and I will be working on that just for my own interest. I don't even know if that is interesting to you.
