That's gonna be lowered to mandatory inspection at 30 or 35 years I think. "Doom! Doom! Doom! I think high rise buildings on coasts where they are not built over and onto the most solid rock should be examined every 10 years. DoNotCooperate |

The building's piles are built on hard clay or rock. At that area in Florida the condos may be built on hard clay if there is no rock to bear on. most likely limestone I don't know. I'd have to search it. I read limestone but not certain. Limestone is soft and cracks easily unlike Granite. Manhatton is all built over granite. Likely water worked away at the base of those piles (pedestals) and the building lost its footing and collapsed. Saturated with water, limestone is not so brittle. It is brittle and it cracks when its dry and it can easily be washed out by water. The building is very close to the beach, so this is not surprising at all. |

It will get worst as temps continue to rise, with corresponding sea levels. Florida will be underwater by the end of the century. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77369151 We've got sand and shells in the middle of the state. What does that imply about the history of Florida? Trisherella |

LOl ... lol ... lol yup ok...clay on the beach...on the shelf...yup thats likely... what stupid people... even if that building was put in place on steel pilings if the ground under the shelf gave way because of water underming...which is what happened...its would fall... they will evacuate the rest of the buildings in the immediate area because it will be found that the ground has been being undermined and the area is now unstable... |

Every responsible building operator in S. Florida will be scrambling to have their situation reviewed. The smart ones will use a strict inspection regime as a marketing tool.
