Are there any Chemists here?
\Why would adding 10oz of 190 proof ever gem , 70F to 16.7 oz 70F purified drinking water create a bottle of 26oz @ 80F? At first it clouded up a little, but, I thought, it might have been air bubbles. Why is there an exothermic reaction?

As a moonshiner, you did it backwards.
Not sure why it clouds, but it does.
Reverse your process.

I've had the PGA sitting around for a couple of years and decided to dilute it to vodka type levels of alcohol.

Yes. Make sure they are both close to the same temp.

I'm looking for some more info.....

The clouding is precipitation, or "fall-out" of undisolved minerals.

Should have used distilled water.

It was purified water, not distilled, but I don't think it is precipitation.

Re: Are there any Chemists here?
Well, I got this from a chemistry website and it's believable.

When the methanol and water are separate, they both exhibit hydrogen bonding with themselves. When the water and methanol are mixed together, some of the existing hydrogen bonding (water-water or methanol-methanol) is disturbed and now there is hydrogen bonding between water and methanol. This new hydrogen bonding pair (water-methanol) releases energy when it forms as it is more favorable than maintaining only water-water and methanol-methanol hydrogen bonding; the temperature increase you observe is the result of the released energy warming the solution.

If they are drinking it, I hope it is ethanol , not methanol. (not that it changes anything you said.

They say methanol, but I'm sure the same applies to Ethanol. I was just shocked that the bottle got warm. and slightly fearful.

After further reading, I'm pretty sure this is what is happening.

Re: Are there any Chemists here?
BTW. it tastes great. just a slight sweetness but no real flavor which is the way vodka should be. Very smooth.
They have to distill the shit out of it to get the alcohol level (190 proof) that high and that takes out all the ugly shit. I reduced it to About 80 proof.

He's right regarding fluoride. If you have no fluoride in your water, then no big deal. If you do, get unfluoridated water from a well or elsewhere. If you must boil fluoridated water to decontaminate from pathogens, use a pressure cooker and boil as little as possible.

Re: Are there any Chemists here?
Since you guys knows stuff I have a question also.

Since calcium can clog water pipes and such, they desided to bombard the water with Soundwaves to shatter the composition before it gets send out as tap water.

I have trouble drinking it, don't know why.
Is the water not good anymore?
I checked the ppm levels it's fine at 300
And PH is optimal 7.

So WTH is wrong with the water or is it just me?

BS, we have some of the best moonshiners here in the eastern part of the US. Most water used by moonshiners either comes from creeks or wells.

End product is crystal clear.

He's right. Boiling water is a good way to concentrate the poisons in city water.

Don't forget about the chloramine in city water, but who in their right mind drinks city water anyway?

If you have to, go get yourself a topshelf filter, then proceed.
