Do any of you have an opinion on moving to the countryside of Brazil given the current situation?

Hi!

I was born and live in south Brazil and might help you with some insights (sorry if my English is not the best).

About the vaccine passaport, I don't think it will matter what the president decides or not, there are forces much bigger than that orchestrating these things. Going to the countryside and being totally independent from the city really seems like the only way out. I've also thought about that.

Many people here talked about the crime rates and etc., but you just have to pick the right place.

For example, I live 1 hour away from cities such as São Vendelino and Alto Feliz, which are basically heaven on earth. Mostly german and italian descendants, with very simple people and beautiful lands around.

So, as many people here already advised you, I'll say it's better to go to some place here in the south.

Thank you very much, Graz.

The city I'm looking at had not even one theft the entire year last year. No violent crime. Sounds really nice.

If I could find what I'm looking at in the US for a good price, I would just stay here but I really can't. And the inflation is killing the USD right now. Below $5:1 rate as of day before yesterday. Crazy to see it swing so hard and fast. I think a month ago it was $5.70:1usd.

Waiting on expired passports, then we will be heading down to check it out.

Do you know if anyone does anything to mitigate mosquito illnesses? I'm hoping a diet high in fruits and vegetables will help.

I've found a great place with perfect weather year around, fresh well water, fruit trees which provide year around, it's isolated, two hours from a big city. I can pay cash for it.

Just not sure about how much of a compromising position I'll be in. On one hand, it seems like the vaccination passport is inevitable in the states. But isn't that everywhere? Brazilian president is very much against vaccine passport and even encouraged ivermectin treatments. He's not liked by TPTB. But is it just as act?

MSM likes to cry about how bad Covid is there, but the death rate is barely above the US. I think it was 0.008% vs our 0.002%.

I just want to owe no one anything so if the economy collapses I'm not worried about bill collectors. And I want fresh water and the ability to stay fed year around without any extreme climate swings.

Thanks for any thoughts you guys have. Yes, I've been learning Portuguese. It's my third language and it's going well for about three weeks of effort.

If however you decide to go to Brazil I strongly recommend that you go to the south of Brazil where people are more civilized.

I heard those states are seriously considering
breaking away from Brasil and creating their own new nation.
I hope they do, those areas are actually very much like something you'd see in parts of Europe or Argentina.

Some southern states in Brasil are nearly entirely of white European descendants. Surprise! Argentina is also very much like that in areas.

The blacks anywhere in the world are literally like a dangerous plague to any civilized society.

I don't really know because around here there isn't any problem with mosquito illnesses.

But if you are going to a place that there is, you've got to check if there is vaccine available for it, like for yellow fever (that is if you are not against all vaccines and not just against the Covid one).

Apart from that, I think in those regions people just have to get used to use repellents and close their houses at night.

I wouldn't think eating a lot of fruits would help with anything, as excess of frutose can cause insulin resistance, witch is really bad for your immunity.

I didn't mention that I'll not need to make ends meet off money from a job there. I have a pension and the exchange rate is currently very favorable though I anticipate a drastic reduction(though still favorable) by the end of the year.

In regards to murder videos, yes, there's a lot of open drug cartel behavior. You have to stay away from favelas (very poor, drug infested areas), and of course not get involved dealing drugs or interfering with drug business. They openly send messages on a regular basis to keep their control.

My concern is more regarding the vaccination push. I think if all money is withheld if you don't take a vaccine, having food and water year around on your own temperature stable land is the way to go. Just not sure how to measure the risk. Here in the states I have a mortgage that will take decades to pay off, and we are looking at inflation possibly to the point like the great depression coming. Brazil has already experienced this and they are more resilient.

I just don't know if I'm being smart or stupid leaving America and starting over.

My in-laws lost a ton of money when they exchanged it from Brazilian to U.S. currency. Not sure how it is the other way around. Be careful.

Aesthetically, it is an extremely beautiful place. But socio-economically/politically, it leaves a LOT to be desired.

Crime is through the roof in many parts (like Mexican cartel bad), economic classes are drastically different- no middle class, you're either really well off or really poor, and a large part of the population are against Balsonaro. Mostly the gangs and super poor. So if you support him, you may be treated like a Trump supporter is here in the U.S.

I have several relatives trying to move out of the country, because of the crime. They have been held at gunpoint and robbed several times in the last couple of years.

Just make sure you do some heavy research before jumping in. Maybe become friends with some locals if possible and visit a few times before moving there permanently, to familiarize yourself with the area.

Whatever you do, make sure you have a very good grasp of Portuguese and understand their rules/laws. Don't go there looking like a tourist, lol. While many Brazilians are kind and loving people, there are always a few who will take advantage of you in a second if given the opportunity.

Forgot to add in my post above (regarding vaccinations), the family I have there said there is still pressure from govt to get the vaccines (even though Balsonaro doesn't personally like them).

Most of them live in the big cities, so that is probably why. Not sure what it's like in the more remote areas.

Good luck.
