If they gave you Cipro that probably means you have gastroenteritis (helicobacter or enterococcus infection). It happens to dogs a lot because they eat everything the smell off the ground. That’s common in people from eating out at sketchy places. I had it in Thailand. We went to a local healer and he gave me a bowl of hot peppermint oil to drink (very potent), and told me no more dairy until healed. Dairy has cultures that feed the infection.
Moving forward, limit your food intake to butchers and grocers you know and trust, and wash everything.

Re: Colitis: If you've dealt with it, please come in and advise me
I just got back from the ER after finding out my pain and vomiting and passing blood are from colotis.

I was given antibiotics, Flagyl and Cipro. I'm hoping they work fast....because I'm still in pain, not as bad, occasionally trying to vomit up my liver, and still passing blood, just a small amount...but I am very relieved to be at home. I hate having to go to the hospital....but I am scared.

The advise I'm looking for is just how you managed to get through this unholy hell, I'm not looking for medical advise. It's not as bad as having a bowel obstruction, but nothing is worse than that, not even a massive heart attack.

Is there anything I can do to have myself feel better?

I know probably not, but I'm asking. I haven't eaten anything for 24 hours, and I can't eat now. I'm hoping the antibiotics don't upset my stomach....I mean, I was still vomiting despite the IV Zophran in the ER.

I'm sipping on a little bit of water, but I do have aloe vera juice, and I know that will be as another healing agent. I'll get started on that after I'm sure I can hold little sips of water down, to larger sips.

Thank you for any advise you can give me. I am very scared what the colonoscopy will show, so please try to be gentle ACs. I don't want to have to block youse guyses again.

Just sipping water and not eating will make it worse- your stomach acid (and overall body ph) is a massive factor in your body's overall health. You NEED to find something simple that you CAN eat:

Here's my method: bake a potato in the microwave. It only takes a few minutes.
-Eat half of it plain, with salt.
-wait 15 minutes. If you feel ok (chances are, you'll feel FANTASTIC) then eat the other half potato with Butter (real butter) and salt.
-wait 15 minutes. If you still feel ok, then potatoes and butter will keep you alive if the colitis gets really bad.
-next up: eggs. Fry an egg, sunny side up. Mage sure the yolk is runny.
-Eat it with salt. See how you feel in 15 minutes.

Next up: rice: plain white rice, with butter and salt. ABSOLUTELY NO SOY SAUCE.

if that doesn't kill you, then try peanut butter.

The above foods are extremely basic, but they are complete enough nutrition to keep you alive and healthy while your body heals. The foods above are generally safe for people with Crohn's, colitis, ibs, autoimmune disorders, celiacs, etc.

Food that is likely to hurt you:

Lettuce (though spinach should be fine)
Bran
Oats
Milk
Cheese
Red meat
Soy
Various vegetable oils: olive oil for example

Hope that helps. I went through it in 2012, nearly killed me. I learned an unbelievable amount about nutrition in a very short time.

Okay, this is the only thing I did different....I ate a lot yesterday, at least more than usual. I had two eggs and bacon, part of a salad from Applebees, and some mozzarella sticks with marinara. I ate some popcorn and three chocolate glazed donuts...they're my favorite, but the rest of the package of them are going to the trash....no more sugar for me for awhile.

That's as much as I'll eat in 2-3 days. I intermittent fast, and I'm down to one meal a day, with a snack. I don't know what was with me that day eating so much.

It is not ulcerative colitis and the cat scan showed no diverticulitis, thankfully, the ER doc said. This is the first time this has happened to me.

But I'm not seeing how eating a lot would give me an infection.

At any rate, I can cut out wheat. It's not like I eat a lot of it anyway. Milk is going to be harder, but I'll work on it.

I do have castor oil, and I'm going to rub it all over my belly.

Thank you again....hf

wtf.......chuckle

I know, I don't know what was with me that day. What can I say?....shrug

I have NEVER had a problem like this because of food, or anything else. NEVER.

This is all new for me, eh? I'm trying to figure out how to best move forward until I get the colonoscopy and find out what the source of disease is.

At any rate, I've mostly just slept since getting home. I'm actually feeling a little better...sleep is so important. There's still the blood, which freaks me right the hell out, but I'm feeling better. I've been up for almost an hour and no cramping pain, this is good....cheer go team cosmic!

grinning...thank you everyone for your help!

You must surely take advantage of Kratom. It is a miracle plant that will help with the nausea and the pain. It has a mild analgesic effect. People the world over use this miracle plant.

People with colitis have used it to great effect.

Both my father and my Aunt ( his sister) have it and they both deal with it differently. First you must understand it is a psychosomatic illness, in other words the illness is caused by you and your anxiety and your fears and your nervousness. If you are watching a scary movie or fear your boss, whatever it goes straight to your colon. Diets help but until you change your attitude on life and how you deal with stress it will keep coming back, its kinda like an ulcer, another psychosomatic illness. My aunt loves life, she sails, plays cards, is very social, loves to cook and DRINK! You know the boating world. She just said, Nope, not gonna let it ruin me and she has very little problem with it. So, if there is some kind of underlying disease, that has nothing to do with this colitis?

I was not upset when this happened, seriously I was happy. I dunno.

The last BO I had last year, I was sure it was because I was terribly disappointed in the world - last year was tough for all of us - I was disappointed in everything. I asked the ER doc if it could be because of my deep disappointment, and I was surprised when he said yes. That one happened almost two years after I had the other nine of them. I thought I had been finished with them.

I'm going to take your post as advise....but I really wasn't upset. For sure, once the colonoscopy is done, if there is no underlying disease, then I'll know I'm a basket case....heh, I really don't think it's why, though, however I could deal with my emotions much easier than I can deal with disease. That would be a dream come true if it's just emotional based.

I've only had two cramping episodes since since I last posted and I haven't yet passed any blood this morning, so it seems like it is getting better.

Thank you everyone! I know you think I'm a dumbass for eating like I did, but I had no idea this would happen....pfht, I don't even know if that's responsible.

Oh, and yes, I smoke medical marijuana. I wasn't even able to smoke during the night of hell. All it's done for me since is to help me sleep, which is good. Having a decent night's sleep has helped me immensely.

I don't use them anymore for food... because a teenage years and years ago proved that plants will not grown and in fact die when watered with COLD microwaved water.

I tried her experiment.. started a bunch of bean seeds in cups... grew until they had several leaves.. then began to water 1/2 with ordinary tap water.. and the other half with tap water that had been heated in the microwave... (and cooled first.. for you ones who love to say hot water kills)

all of the microwaved watered ones shrived and died. I have no used one since for anything going into my body.

I used to love mine to reheat leftovers.. and all that.. made a big pot of coffee and then reheated that over a couple days.. made my tea in the microwave.. glorious tool or so I thought...

I have a tiny microwave I can use to sterilize some things and I heat the rice packs I made to use as heating pads.. that's it.

I had colitis so bad I would black out on the toilet from the pain.

Literally unconscious wake up on the floor with my pants down.

I did what people typically suggest.

Cut out bread, sugar, and ate smaller meals.

You don't want too much fiber so careful of full vegetarian diet. Cooked meats and fats are easy to digest.

I thought eating a lot of eggs would be best, but that made it difficult to poop also. Gotta eat some fiber.

I only eat sugar now once every couple months at like a party or something. I might eat a piece of cake or a cookie. The rest of the time. No sugar and no corn syrup.

I just had some homemade chicken broth. Thankfully, I had some wings in my freezer. I was going to make buffalo wings with them....was, lol.

I swear, homemade chicken broth is like sacred food, it's so comforting. I had a couple of tears of bread I put in the broth, and that was good, too. I'm going to start taking the meds at different times.

I know I need to order some probiotics, but I've usually gotten my in Las Cruces where I can get them chilled. From what I've read, the refrigerated ones are the best, otherwise the live cultures just die, so I've got to read the ones available on Vitacost, to see if that problem can be overcome.

Do any of youse guyses know about this, ones that aren't refrigerated? Do you have a link to some that are good, even if they're not refrigerated?

I don't care where I have to get them from, or really even the cost, but I don't want subpar probiotics.

I've suffered with inflammation my whole life, up until going gluten and dairy free.

been in the hospital twice with colitis, they gave me the same antibiotics that did nothing.

I've linked the colitis and inflammation directly with gluten.

Vegan is a fad that still includes gluten.

Cut out gluten and dairy, limit your sugar

I'm looking at this one--

--and it says it's room temp stable, and as well, the reviews are very good, with people saying it helped them.

I like Jarrow products, I've taken them before.

Unless someone can recommend something better today, then I'm going to add that to my order of supplements I have to order by midnight tonight, in order to get 20% off my order.

I do take a very good turmeric and a lot of other very good supplements. I also do eat well, I'm at like 90% organic on my fruits and veggies. I check everything I buy, that it's not GMO...but I do know pre-made foods, like donuts, come with no guarantees. I am going to have to cut back on chocolaty, sweet pre-made foods. When I buy chocolate to eat or cook with, I use organic, dark chocolate. I also have organic cocoa powder.

I'm really not that much of a slob with what I put in my mouth.

My daughter was the youngest diagnosed with Crohns disease, 20 years ago. She was 5 1/2 years old.
My advice: Go Gluten Free, dairy free, stay away from soy. If you go vegetarian stay away from soy. Make healthy homemade juices. If you need prednisone take it for only a short period of time. It is dangerous and causes insulin dependent diabetes. If given medication be leary of side effects. My daughter was given low dose chemo for years. I was told it was an anti-inflammatory. It is my opinion that Crohns/colitis people end up with cancer because of the cocktail of drugs that they are given. My daughter always complained about the drugs. At 15 she refused to take them, and it was the best decision we ever made. Make sure you have competent specialists and multiple opinions, or somebody will decide to do some radical surgery. Good luck. Hoping and praying that your health is protected!

If your daughter has Crohn's disease, did she have antibiotics at an earlier time in life? Or maybe the mother when carrying the baby?

My father however "holds things in" get the metaphor??
Dumb taking antibiotics, unnecessary and will make you shit bloat Diarra 6 weeks from now and bacteria and candida team up and cling together in your gut, very counterproductive,

You are a dumb animal. Too dumb to get educated.
Can't teach someone as dumb as you, so I will not bother.
You are wasting everyone's time venting your cesspool you call your opinion. Go shit somewhere else.

-itis conditions are always garbage diagnosis. It's inflammation but they don't know what causes inflammation. Allergies but they don't know what causes the allergy. Seems more like toxins would be responsible for inflammation than ambiguous allergy that can't even be proven. You go on a diet but how do you know diet is a factor and not time? -itis conditions are chronic but irregular. Figure that one out.

you are so right.

Colitis means an issue with the colon, like dermatitis means an issue with your skin.

neither word says WHAT the issue is.

if it is C-diff, I had that. Long recovery, but gone it is.

GIVE UP GLUTEN

no wheat, rye, barley or oats.

this has made a HUGE difference in the health of anyone I know who has done it.
 Quoting: beeches

These uncultured savages don't know what C-diff means.
So I will clarify it. Clostridium Difficile, which is a bacteria which is normally present in the colon and is in balance with other bacteria, but if someone allows the demons called doctors to give someone antibiotics, it will wipe the good bacteria but the Clostridium Difficile is extremely resistant to it, maybe even immune and so it becomes very abundant.
Clostridium Difficile is a hospital sickness due to antibiotics treatment.

OP totally ignored my post so I guess she is too dumb to learn. OP does not realize its an infection and the cause must be destroyed. Dabbling with diets is not going to 'magically' kill off the pathogens.
But apparently the simple primitive nature of people makes them think healthy food will cure everything.

Eating healthy food is good, but do not expect it to cure the root cause of infection if you don't know the cause.
But as I said OP ignored my post so I will leave her to dabble with whatever nonsense diet she wants.
