We are all burned out from the Covid "crisis" - I get it.
Its weird though I waiver from cold hearted to moved with empathy a lot more these days.

I took several bags of canned goods to the food bank this morning, it had nothing to do with this - and I was moved by how hard it is for some right now. Then I got home and saw the email. People are suffering right now. I was thinking as I was driving around its like a new version of the Dust Bowl getting going. I am afraid its about to get worse too.

I totally understand the mixed emotions, thank you.
Its hard to watch that video and not want better for this person. She's an older lady, very down on her luck, who loves and cares for her dogs, who is in a bad situation and she seems to be in a spiral of decline. I just wish she had a little safe space, with a hot shower for her and her dogs. How come some are so showered with the "gibs" and others - not? I don't understand.

I appreciate that link.
I was hopeful someone here knew who this was and what the rest of the story is.

Ok I am not going to link her Go Fund me -
But if you goggle Wendy Davis living in a van, you will get a search result. I hope I do not get in trouble for this, but some of you have asked about googling her. She is also out there in a public venue.

Hey guys, isn't one of our members this woman?
I can't recall who this person is here.

In any regard I am worried about this person.
If anyone has more information to share, please pm me.
Thank you.

I have never been homeless, but have known several homeless people. In talking with them and observing them and other homeless people that used to stay and drift around where I used to live, I found that about 85% of them had mental and/or drug problems. Most are getting some sort of government check (around $600-900 mth) which is quickly spent on drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, pet food, lottery games. Many also get food stamps.
There is a lot of help for these people thru programs and such, but they don't want to go to shelters, etc because there are rules they would have to follow. A lot of them have also been kicked out of homes and shelters for violent behavior. And yet they always seem to blame everyone else for their problems to get sympathy and cash from people. One solution would be to open back up the mental institutions that were closed years ago. At least these people could be taken care of properly.

She works doing deliveries and puts priority on the Animals she Loves. Those dogs may help her feel a measure of safety and comfort while having to live out of her Van.

I don't think Wendy would be able to be as coherent over these months if she had a substance abuse problem. I don't know what her whole/real story is - this is why I put this thread up - I thought this was a member here. I was hoping someone might know more about this situation.

I agree its a shame we don't have more options for people in mental health need. They just kind of rotate them through jail these days and let them wander the streets.

I can't log in but I don't post often anyway. (No Winter)

Wendy first asked for help during the hurricane a few years ago. She is a real person with no addictions. She lives in the same county that I do. She has no family except for her dogs, and they are her family.

She works delivering for two of the food delivery services and lives in her van. I have helped when I could but I am not able to do more.

If you don't want to help, then don't, but she is real, struggling and trying to survive.

My friend who sells real estate is showing million dollar estates today to a man around 30. Its seems sometimes the wealth gap is getting larger.

Saw something about the State of Tennessee - only 3% of the states job postings were above 26,000 - that boggles the mind. Those are 1980s wages. And yet new vehicles are 70 grand these days. We live in a crazy world.

EU have communal housing projects .In USA feral people turned this concept into ghetto no go zone
Township own apartments building , you pay reasonable rate to live in .
On your floor may live teacher , truck driver and shopkeeper , sometimes drunkard .That's what's make Americans unique .All bums living together

I wanted to add that I live in a neighborhood with an HOA so I can't just have her park in my driveway. Also, even though we are in the same county, she is at the Northern most point and I am at the Southern most point. About 55 miles apart.

Wendy is from CA. She lost her job and and then her house and came to Florida because her father was living here. She could not find work here due to age and health issues. After her father passed away she had no place to go.
