Passenger tweeted:

"There was an attempt to take down a plane today," said passenger Benjamin Curlee in a video posted to TikTok. "Apparently, someone who was a flight attendant, not a flight attendant active on this flight, but a flight attendant, made an announcement over the loudspeaker and said, 'Everyone, please take your seat and get ready to put on an oxygen mask,' and then attempted to open the door of the plane.

Well, then... he would know damn well that you cannot open those doors in flight. They are plug doors with 8.6 psi from the inside. The main door weighs hundreds if not 1000 lbs, depending on the aircraft. Not many people I know are capable of exerting 8600 pounds of force. That doesn’t take into account the two inch diameter metal bolts and the edge of the aircraft skin that would have to deform and break before the door opened even a millimeter.

You can't open a pressurized door on a jetliner at cruising altitude. They are shaped like a cork and seal against the wall from the cabin pressure.

"I feared the worst," he said. "I prayed that God would protect my family in case I was gone."

Curlee said he and a passenger next to him bolted from their seats to help but did not get very far.

"We got nowhere near because basically every man on the plane stepped up and was in the aisle," Curlee said.
