Beaches Along Lake Erie?
Anyone know of anywhere good to stay and/or visit along Lake Erie... Eyeing Ohio locations.

Wondering if it is just as well to visit there instead of an ocean beach.

Thanks.

I'm by "the strip" in Geneva on the lake. Great place to drink and have a good time.

Be careful though. We have a saying here in Ohio.

"Ohio, come on vacation, leave to probation."

Cader Point in Sandusky is fun. Expensive, but fun.

On Google maps on the Canadian side of the lake find the Stargate post a pic here, and I will explain why I put that label on that particular spot.

Don't have the info you're looking for. Well, maybe Erie, PA, but the town is kind of, well, not nice. East of it is a nice winery area though.

A few hours from Toledo is New Buffalo, Mi, and Warren Dunes State Park on Lake Michigan. One of the best beaches in the country, IMO.

Two hours north of Toledo is Lakeport State Park on the shore of Lake Huron. The lake is gorgeous.

Personally, I'd drive far out of my way to either of these rather than Lake Erie.

The last two are going to be a bit more of a crazy party atmosphere. If you want a little quieter, but on the islands, I suggest Kelley's.

Also Huron and Catawba (Ohio) have some nice public beaches.

You may be able to Air B'n'B a place in either town though that has access to a private beach. These are really nice.

Hey Doc! I can confirm Put-in-Bay is a huge party place on the weekends and now that it is summer, it'll pick up more during the week, too. Nice place to visit for a day, though. Huron and Catawba are nice. Sandusky doesn't really have a beach, it's at Cedar Point. Part of the beach is free/open to public. They do have a water park on the lake. Extra admission.

Maumee Bay State Park is closer to Toledo. I've not been there, but my folks used to love it. Everyone I know that's been there had good things to say about it.

I'm in the area now. Let me know if I can help. I'm prejudiced, though. Grew up here. I LOVE my lake!

Port Dover on the Canadian side? Point Pelee national park is on the way there. Miles of sandy beaches and dunes.

but is the border opened between Michigan and Ontario? We're not even allowed recreational travel from region to region in British Columbia and the restrictions are worse in Ontario.

OP is asking about the American side.

Have you been there lately? PC's a good town with lots of great restaurants. You can catch the ferry to the Islands. But...the beach is kind of eroded from the winter and latest storms. Jolly Rogers is our favorite place for perch and walleye, though.

Honestly Headlands Beach is a lesser known and more magical type beach place. White soft sand. It feels much like the ocean. The waves are nice especially if you have a small board you can hang onto and ride them. The water is pretty shallow so excellent for swimming. Life guards during the day but you can stay and hang out into the evening. They have a beach festival every year with a sand castle competition. There is a light house which you can walk/hike to on a natural trail. By the lighthouse are some huge private sunbathing/swimming areas with big rocks to lie on. They are probably concrete slabs but it’s still nice and private. I still go there sometimes just to be alone.

I was in Ashtabula county a few years ago. The beach there had an abundance of beach glass, tampon applicators, and syringes in the sand. The kids made all kinds of neat sandcastles. Lake Erie is the toilet bowl of the Great Lakes. Huron has beautiful beaches.

Re: Beaches Along Lake Erie?
Ashtabula has the biggest beach on Lake Erie. Tons of nice restaurants, bed and breakfasts, and stuff to do. Plus it’s inexpensive. It’s close to Geneva on the Lake which is cool for an hour or two depending on how drunk you get. If you have ten bucks to your name you can hang 5 girls. They hardly have any police so you can literally getaway with murders if that’s your thing. Drinking and driving is a blast.

Then there’s about a thousand wineries to get even more blacked out. Eat some cheese trays and shit.

Good fishing about a mile out if you bring a boat.
