Quoting: Turtle Flower The other day I drove by the lumberyard, and have never seen so much wood piled up, almost the entire yard was filled with wood, stacks and stacks set out over the several acres. Why is wood so expensive now? It sure ain’t a shortage. Lumber trucks busy here in Oregon, too. Is it going to China? |

If you are a builder and your don’t own lumber futures you’re an idiot. I bought a big truck this winter and I bought oil and gas stocks, calls, and futures. Done VERY well and if gas goes up even more I win. If it goes down my costs are less. Businesses hedge, and so do smart households. |

I’ve got a vacation ski house in Maine, every lumber yard up there is over flowing with raw logs and finished products. I’ve never seen their yards as full as they are now Quoting: Cardiak Let them sit on it, while paying on their working capital loans, then watch them sell at bargain basement prices. He's obviously not getting paid extra so he's sitting on it. The lumber mills and the retailers are stepping on it for no reason. Anonymous Coward User ID: 77011521 06/04/2021 02:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's the treated wood for housing. There might be other gouging going on on untreated but it's affecting the smaller builders the most. My friends folks sold their place and were going to build a house, all plans done and ready to go... then the builder called them in and said sorry it will cost an extra 100k. So they are living in his driveway in their RV. At least it's a nice RV...The big builders have prices locked in under contract, at least they should... |
