I live out in rural SC on the edge of a national forest, and see fully loaded log trucks pass my house at least half-a-dozen times a day, and driving around I see logging happening all over the place.

The other day I drove by the lumberyard, and have never seen so much wood piled up, almost the entire yard was filled with wood, stacks and stacks set out over the several acres.

Why is wood so expensive now? It sure ain’t a shortage.

Lumber trucks busy here in Oregon, too.

Is it going to China?

Quit whining and be smarter. If you are a builder and your don’t own lumber futures you’re an idiot.

I bought a big truck this winter and I bought oil and gas stocks, calls, and futures. Done VERY well and if gas goes up even more I win. If it goes down my costs are less. Businesses hedge, and so do smart households.

There is no shortage, lumber yards are filled to the brim like never before. I’ve got a vacation ski house in Maine, every lumber yard up there is over flowing with raw logs and finished products. I’ve never seen their yards as full as they are now

Loggers and lumber mill workers are busier than a one legged man at an ass kicking contest. So busy they can't take time to post on GLP.

there are disruptions in the supply chain, and I'm sure downright manipulation. I'm holding off on projects personally.

In the past few year, the national forests in Michigan have been aggressively harvested. I always wonder where all the wood is going, and who is profiting.

Working with lumber is hard work, and people get payed more to stay home and play video games on the couch. Drivers too, so it's a supply chain problem making wood so expensive, not a shortage of product.

It is the treated wood/ plants that are behind. I know, I operate one. 60-70 hour work weeks and cannot get caught up.

No, trees are being taken from the national forests at an alarming rate. There is no slow down in tree harvesting.

I live near a logger, and I've never seen so many raw logs piled up. He's obviously not getting paid extra so he's sitting on it. The lumber mills and the retailers are stepping on it for no reason.

There was a video out months ago where a homeowner remodeling his house came across stacks & stacks of lumber being hidden & stored away. It looked like a deliberate effort to keep an inordinate amount of lumber out of circulation !!

Biden is most likely buying wood from China and getting a kickback, all the while virtually shutting down America's wood sales. He's done it with oil and beef so far.

It's to destroy the middle class. Good luck building a house making 75k a year when it costs $150k alone in lumber to build a 1200 sq ft house.

May as well be making min wage living in government provided housing

Re: Wood shortage? Um, no ...
It's the treated wood for housing. There might be other gouging going on on untreated but it's affecting the smaller builders the most. My friends folks sold their place and were going to build a house, all plans done and ready to go... then the builder called them in and said sorry it will cost an extra 100k. So they are living in his driveway in their RV. At least it's a nice RV...The big builders have prices locked in under contract, at least they should...
