but he does have a point that we should invest more in cybersecurity and the way we do that is through creating more cybersecurity professionals.

with that said, i also point out that we should educate the older generations in importance of IT and cybersecurity.

i recently left a job where i was a sysadmin for a medium sized manufacturing firm.

it was an easy job for those who knew how IT works, but VP's kept underfunding and cutting resources through layoffs in IT dept.

so naturally i raised a point of concern and this was their response:

"why should we keep giving your department money when we dont get any hacks or data intrusions?"

i was thinking of saying "well you pay us so that we DONT have those problems," but i realized that the upper management was wholly ignorant of how systems and tech works in general.

got another job in a different manufacturing firm(gov't contractor) where they valued info security by mandates, contractual obligations and my talents were needed.

older generation needs to realize we are more vulnerable than ever because of how much we utilize the internet and value the propensity to be digitally connected.
